Oh dear me. How annoying that someone felt the need to go and report this thread. I see PS as a place where friends are gathering together to support and advise each other. This thread is not a critisism (im sure I didn''t spell that right!) of Julia or her work. It was just asking what people thought. Bah!

Wow, I guess I''m really naive for an almost 50 year old woman, but I can''t believe someone would do something so mean-spirited and nasty. It would never even occur to me to do such a thing. This transaction is totally between you and Julia, I can''t believe someone would stick themselves into the middle of it, just to make someone else feel bad. Disgraceful behavior.

Now, having said that, I really don''t think you should feel bad Kitty. The sketch is fairly different from the pic, so your concern about the ring is a valid one, and nothing horrible was said. In fact, almost every poster said to wait until you get it to decide. I too encourage you to be objective about the ring, and not worry about hurting the designer''s feelings.

I haven''t read through all the most likely more knowledgeable responses yet, but maybe there was a technical reason that it needs to be elongated? That''s the only thing I can think of. I think it looks really great as is, but I''m sure it can be tweaked, right?

I can''t believe someone did that either. Poor Julia. She''s the nicest person. When I wanted a key pendant she told me I could probably make my own if I wanted to and emailed me instructions and photos. There aren''t a lot of people who would do something like that for someone they don''t even know. I keep meaning to email her again and thank her actually.

Wow, some people really need to learn where their place is. Getting involved in a business matter between a vendor and another customer is totally inappropriate. I think whomever made the statement about people having nothing better to do than stir up trouble is pretty spot on in this case. Regardless of your intentions, back off and butt out of what doesn''t concern you.

Personally I think it''s a lovely ring. I have several that are similar to the overall shape and they fit nicely, even on my ring finger.

Don''t feel bad ForteKitty! I have had no experience with JKT but after reading through this thread, I would love to work with her. It seems lots of people have taken this as an opportunity to talk about how wonderful she is!

I think the ring is really pretty and I hope you love it when it''s on your finger!

Back to discussion about the ring.

I love the star-like ring in your sketch, and do not like the traffic-light look of the finished ring. Wonder if you can widen the middle parts of the frame (to make the middle look fatter) and connect the center stone to the frames with four thin/tiny metal bars/stokes?

i agree that there is no reason someone needed to point this thread out to Julia (but as was said, this thread also makes me really want to work with her!)

my take on the ring: after looking at the pictures a bit more, there really isn''t a good "straight on" photo as you have in the sketches. they all are at a bit of an angle. i think when you get the ring and have the chance to see it head on, it will have the "squatty" appearance. gorgeous ring!

I''m sorry someone did that Forte. There''s just no reason for it. I was concerned about my ring from Sally, about the "bigness" of it, but there''s a difference between a huge computer screen and a tiny one or 2 inch ring. I don''t see the point in adding to the issue by contacting Julia, what that person was thinking when doing it.

Regardless, I''m looking forward to seeing it and I''m sure it''s going to look different when it''s on your hand!

I just wanted to jump in and say that although it''s different from what you imagined, I really like the looks of the finished product!!!

i like both the sketch and the ring. i think it will be lovely. what is the metal?

i do not know julia. i have never communicated with her. i have admired her work on this site and have looked at her site when it was linked. i did not contact her about this thread. i am wondering why everyone thinks she would not read ps herself. do some of you know she does not? i am not implying that she read it and someone did not report it to her just that it is a possibility that she may herself read it. i believe it is between the maker and the buyer but when you post it online i think it changes things as it is out there for all to see. i disapprove of troublemaking but is it possible that someone was just trying to help, not that they should have.

i look forward to seeing your pictures once you have the ring. i hope you like it and i enjoy seeing all of julia's work.

Julia really is sweet, I was lucky enough to work with her before she became a big success on PS, and she sent me multiple photos at each step while she made my pendant. At one point, I made a comment about it not being quite what I imagined, and she scrapped that part and redid it after we talked it over, at no extra charge. She really is super nice, and I''m sure if you have concerns with the ring in person, she will work with you to make the minor adjustments necessary.

You can tell just by talking to her that she takes immense pride in the quality of her work and the satisfaction of her customers!

hi chase, apart from maybe 2 posts introducing herself over in CS I can vouch that julia does not read PS. More often than not she is chained to the bench with all our projects!

also from the way kitty explained it it is clear someone did interfere..as i said earlier, this is also not the first time.

I like it. It reminds me of similar vintage settings.

Well, I''m ignoring the drama...the ring looks very cool. I am anxious to see/read what you think of it IRL. I hope you do like it or she can make a change or two for you. Is this in WG or ASilver? Hope you do like it when you put it on your hand.

Hi there everybody,
Just wanted to jump in here and clear up some confusion. First, as always, any issues with clients are handled in an appropriate way to the satisfaction of all parties involved.

I do not think there was any malicious intent in mentioning this thread to me, merely and inquiry about the accuracy of my sketches by a prospective client. Keep in mind, these threads can be read by anyone on the internet and the person who contacted me is not necessarily a even a PS member. It doesn''t mean there are rats in the corn.

Like all of you here, I love gems and jewelry, am a PS member and do occasionally enjoy a visit to the site. People send me links all of the time to see their posts and to view neckshots and handshots or to reference a piece they''ve seen. Sometimes I even have the time to simply read topics of interest. Though I rarely post, I am sometimes present.

Mostly I just want to say, everyone relax, continue to have a good time and keep it shiny. All is well.

What a classy and *elegant* response! Very impressive!

Back to the ring: While it *appears* to be different from the sketch, I really, really love that design. I hope you love it when you get it. Please post lots of pics when it arrives!

I took these while at work, so the lighting is kinda crappy!

Ring fits on both my middle finger and index finger, depending on weather/salt intake.

I actually think the longer look of the ring compliments your slender fingers beautifully, congrats!

those pictures look awful, but i had to size down and reduce quality using Paint... which is crappy to use.

i have been wearing it all day at work, and looked at it under different lighting. I think I''ve made a decision on how I feel... but wanted to see what you guys thought. :)

Beautiful ring!

JMO - people should contact the company before posting online about problems. I don''t want to sound harsh, but it''s kind of unfair to everyone involved if unkind words end up being spoken. I''m not even familiar with Julia''s work and this is the first thread I''ve read about her. . .so posts like this do make an impression.

Actually, I posted these pics because I wanted to see if the same things that bothered me is bothering others.

She is wonderful, and has offered to work w/ me on the design. I think I will be making some minor changes. The straight lines do indeed bother me in real life. But I gotta say, the bezel work is amazing!

Okay!

Glad you two are working through things and everything goes smoothly.

Fortekitty, I waited until I saw the ring on your fingers to make the call....

First of all, your hands would make any ring look stunning!

Second, the ring is growing on me...but...

I still like the "fullness" of the sketch better than the final product. It looks cool, but doesn''t have the lines of the sketch. That being said, it''s obvious she does beautiful work.

OK, looking at it closely again, I''m not sure how she''d fix it (although I am sure she will be able to create something that will make you 100% happy). With the size of the stones being what they are...unless she changes the width of the bezel. Hm. and I''m not convinced making the lines "wider" will actually make it prettier.

This is why I am not in jewelry design...I don''t think I''m being very clear here...

What is the rest of your jewelry like?

I think that''s a ring that needs a very specific kind of person - a little avant garde (spelling???), somebody willing to experiment with a different look and a different style (at least, more willing than I am
28.gif
). I love the original kind of star shape of the sketch, and the ring lost that. That said, the ring in and of itself is a really interesting piece and does sit well on your hand.

So if you''re like me and tend more towards classic pieces in wardrobe and accesories, I''d have it re-worked. But if you''re into statement pieces and/or you march to a slightly different drummer style-wise sometimes, I think it''s a really cool ring.

I pitched this idea to her just a few minutes ago, so i dunno it''ll work.

right now the split starts at 10 & 2 o''clock, and 4 & 8 o''clock. I love the bezels and the size, so i thought maybe the wire will be the same on the top, then dip in slightly where the garnet and diamond meet... then split from there. so the new split will be at 11 & 1 o''clock, and 5 & 7 o''clock.

I have no idea if it will work either... but figured it might make the ring look fatter w/o having to widen the bezel. Julia actually suggested that, but it sounds like double the work, having to redo the bezel, and the wires. If my idea works, she only has to redo the wires!

I have jewelry in different styles. solitaires, wide bands, floral, contemporary, delicate... so i like it all! I really do like the design.. just wish it was very slightly plumper.

What bothers me about it is: it looks like a very casual ring to me - like the stones should be semi-precious, not precious. Not sure a different swoop will convince me otherwise. But that''s not an issue of the execution really.
