Missing Something? Looking for advice

Hi, I'm looking for an engagement ring and we have decided on a Marquise halo with the center diamond about .75carat.

I found one on Brilliant Earth that seems to be perfect to me. It hits all the classic 4 C's I'm looking for, as well as recommended depth %, table %, and length to width ratios. The price is less than I've been able to find at other online retailers for comparable diamonds, even less than a couple "worse" diamonds on the BE site... This concerns me a little bit since I've heard on here the BE tends to charge more for diamonds. Is there something I'm missing about this one that is a red flag?

Thanks for the help in advance!

This stone looks like it is from virtual inventory. The listing and the GIA grading report don't match up either. Listing says that it is a G VVS1 while the GIA report says it's a G IF. No actual photos available so I would ask Briliant Earth if they can source a video of the diamond along with an ASET image so you can see the stone before you purchase. Also get some clarification as to the grading of the stone (or just keep quiet and get an IF clarity stone for a VVS1 price.

There is a similar stone at James Allen which has the same issue with grading on the listing (G VVS1) not matching the GIA report (G IF):
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/marquise-cut/0.74-carat-g-color-vvs1-clarity-sku-2575519 for $300 less. But this stone has very good symmetry unlike the one you found at Brilliant Earth and is deeper and is not as long.

It's strange, the diamond you listed is about $550 more expensive than the one I posted. Is it possible for different people to see different prices?

Hi Sphere,
Its really difficult (impossible) to buy fancy cut stones by the numbers. There is no telling what the faceting pattern looks like on
the stone. It could be fine or it could have a big dark arrow going through the center. I'd rather search at James Allen because
they have images of the stones they list.

I'm seeing about $3k on the stone posted by bmfang. We should all be seeing the same numbers. Maybe he posted the wrong link? Not sure...

Here are a few on JA that look to have potential. Remember to look at the LxW over the carat weight. Not sure about the .74 D if stone is fuzzy or
if its camera setup.

Some of the stones have different flavors...all small sparkles or some with bigger flashes and fewer small sparkles. Try to figure out what you think you prefer.

Thank you for your advice. I'm seeing the stone on BE listed at $2480, which would be considerably less, which is why I was concerned initially. bmfang said the JA diamond was $300 less, implying my diamond was $3300, which is not the case.

You make a good point about seeing the diamonds on JA vs. not seeing them on BE. I can always return the ring but I want to get it right the first time.

It's hard researching for Marquise since they aren't very common.

Definitely worth checking every source, I've recently bought a marquise, the exact same stone on JA (checked the GIA number) was $1000 more than I paid!

Wait a minute I think I know why, BE is showing me prices in AUD. JA in USD.

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea máxima culpa.. :wall:

Can't see your intended stone anymore on the link you gave in the original post.

I guess it was snatched up before I could get it :(

I hope it wasn't snatched up by a lurker here on PS! :(
