I have always had my mind on setting a minty green tourmaline in a white gold bezel. Today, a jeweler mentioned to me that I should set it in yellow gold. Thoughts? Anyone have pics of a minty green stone in a gold setting?

TourmalineLover''s got a bunch of pics. Her cuprian in yellow gold is really beautiful! I guess that''s a little different than minty green, but I like green and YG together - very rich looking.

My mint garnet is in yellow gold, and I prefer it in there, but I think they look nice in white gold as well. It depends on how intense the mint green color is since some can get washed out in white gold.

Why thank you Cellentani!

Yay! I''ve been dying for someone to do this combo so that I may live vicariously thru them until I can have it done!

That combo sounds really interesting, Harriet. How dark is your stone? Do you have any pics? I wonder if it''s close in color to what Charmy has.

Here they are.

Ooo are you doing earrings Harriet?

I''ve said this before, and I think those are beautiful mint tourmalines. Very fine color. I think when you have really fine color like that, it doesn''t matter what the metal is. In fact, I think white gold might even make those pop more since it''s a larger contrast.

Packrat,
Yes, but I''m not sure when I''ll get around to it.

TL,
Thanks.

Wow Harriet .. those are gorgeous.

Sounds like Rose Gold is the way to go.

Thanks! What type of metal are you leaning towards?

Depending on the actual colour of the mint, it might be all right (or not) for yellow. If it has any hint of yellow, the yellow metal might end up bringing it out of the tourmaline. If it is a "cool" mint, then a white metal will probably be all right. I''m trying to imaging rose gold but think it might bring a nice contrast to the stone.

So, the design is finalized?

Chrono, there was a thread about what stones look good in rose gold a while back and there''s a couple pictures in it of mint stones resting in/by rose gold settings. Really pretty!

Chorno - It will be for the light minty green I have from Barry. The darker one is going into a bezel halo. The jeweler thought the dark green one is a much nicer stone (similar to your thoughts a while back). In real life, the light green stone is more minty and the dark green stone is a deeper green.

I don't suppose you happen to have any rose gold pieces that you can place next to the 2 tourmalines to get a better feel of the colour combination? Would your jeweller have any?

Your stones are pretty. I have mint garnets and have them in WG but they looked good setting on top of YG mounts too.

That last one is a mint garnet. I know because I've posted that pic before.

As Katebar''s? She got her stone from Wildfish I believe. Sorry for the tiny hijack.

Rose!
Charmy, here''s a pic of my mint tourm sitting on a RG ring:
for whatever reason they work really well together imo.

Plus, there''s the advantage that if your mint has some yellow in it (like mine), the RG won''t enhance it as much as YG might..
