Since I work on a political campaign, I didn't think I would have time to go to the October Intergem show here, but I ended up being able to go for an hour and a half. I went by the Prima Gems booth and started chatting with Jaimeen, who I hadn't met in April because he was in Africa. He is really awesome, as is the other guy (who I knew from last time but whose name I don't remember). I really wanted a greenish pear chrysoberyl and was looking through their trays for one when Jaimeen started just showing me random stuff he liked. He pulled out this tray of mint garnets because they're his favorite, and I just about died when I saw this one. It sparkles more than any other stone I've ever seen. It's INSANE. My pictures absolutely do not do it justice.

This lighting is pretty meh:

Had to change the lighting to get a better color...

This is really close to the color I actually see:

I am thinking rose gold...
img_2625.jpg

I was thinking a setting kind of like Davi's chrysoberyl trillion but more feminine. I had ORIGINALLY wanted to set it with the point on the side instead of the top, but can't find any settings for that I actually like. If anyone has any suggestions, please share!

Rose gold! Are you thinking of a ring design?

I had several inspiration pictures of trillions that were not chunky but might have already erased them when I completed my trillion setting project. Unfortunately, all I have left are pictures of my trillion setting.

Rose gold, yippeeeee!

Looks amazing with rose gold!

YESSS, rose gold!!!

Your new mint garnet is beautiful!!

+5 for rose gold!!!

I did post these pics on another thread-and unfortunately neither are trillion settings- but shows how pretty that minty green is with rose gold. These are inspiration pics I've saved for setting my mint garnet and although they are green diamonds, they are similar in color.

How about adding some pink diamonds to your setting??!! :naughty:

Chrono's chrysoberyl ring is my favorite setting I've seen for a trillion! What about something like that but in rose gold? Your stone is gorgeous by the way!!!!!

Gorgeous stone!!! YUM. Green stones are my favorite right now :-)

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it next to the rose gold!

Distracts, I love that stone! I had my eye on it, as its been on his eBay page for a while (I noticed it because I love Trillions). I didn't go for it because I think I want a bigger one. Heck, I know I want a bigger one. However, thats a really nice stone, and the price was unbelievable. Im glad someone nice got it, and now I can also see what I am missing, and I wish I did buy it, despite its smaller size, LOL.

Congrats!

Chrono, I love your Chryso and the ring setting. Very unique.

I don't own a nice Mint Garnet or a Chrysoberyl. I've bought and sold some of both but haven't had one that I loved enough to hang on to..so I will keep looking.

I did get my mint fix with a Tourmaline that I got from Jeff Davies.

Let us know what you do with that beauty!

I have a mint garnet very similar to yours! Here is a crappy shot

Would love to see what you will do on it 8)

Beautiful and I love the idea of rose gold with it...

http://www.etsy.com/listing/87609505/trillion-paraiba-tourmaline-palladium?ga_search_query=trillion I can totally see this in rose gold with a line of diamonds down the wide end.

http://www.rubylane.com/item/519854-15075/Estate-Trillion-Cut-Aqua-14k Diamond shank to Chrono's gorgeous chrysoberyl?

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/group/Diamond-Settings-Trillion-Cut/702468_211180025.html some semimount ideas

Or I could see this split shank design turned the other way.

I'm glad everyone agrees on the rose gold! I actually didn't have anything in rose gold before I bought those earrings at Intergem, lol.

Chrono, I love your ring so much! A chrysoberyl in that color is one on my "most want" list, but I haven't had much luck finding one. There was a ginormo one that Prima had but it was $4k and my budget was about $400. Your ring is saved in my folder of trillion rings. Unfortunately I think that the slight asymmetry might bug the heck out of me, and I think there's no way for me to know for sure without actually, um, having a setting like that, but I don't want to get one only to find out I don't like it!

Pink Jewel, those settings are pretty! I especially like the second with the pink halo.

Chris, with the amount of pictures I take of my stones, I think reading my threads is probably pretty close to owning them, lol. But yes, you should get a bigger one! I really wish we were allowed to post personal/nonvendor videos because so much about it doesn't show in the pictures. (Also I still quite like that little chrysoberyl I bought from you on DB and set myself into a pre-notched ring. I wear it a lot on the opposite hand as my sapphire/chrysoberyl three-stone.)

OTL, oooh, your stone is pretty!

Starzin, the Nodeform ring and the last one with Xs were already saved in my folder. I like the idea of the diamonds down the side of the Nodeform one... but they don't take outside stones and I don't think I've seen anyone else make anything quite like that.

Massive setting idea picture dump (with some comments):

This was the sort of thing I was originally thinking about.

I like the way one edge is bezeled and the opposite side has the v-prong, though I don't like the ring itself:
il_570xn_4.jpg

TL's lanbo trillion setting, which I like but I'm worried it will overwhelm the little, lightly-colored stone:
tltrillionlanbo.jpg

I like this bezel one with the simple diamonds in the shank:
trillionsapphirebezel.jpg

A twisted shank (I don't like the diamonds on it though):
trillion-sapphire-and-round-diamond-crossover-designer-ring_sr0529s_reg.jpg

A split shank with the point to the side (I would do it without diamonds):
trillion-emerald-and-round-diamond-split-shank-ring_sr0533e_reg.jpg

I also like this one, which you may have seen before :P

Then I think this one is my favorite - it combines the split shank with the bezel/v-prong. I'd want the split a little closer and more flowy, but I like the overall thingy.

101_lg.jpg

Anyway, I don't know. I'll clearly have to think about it more. Maybe I want a combination of the last one and the twisted shank one.

If you are still looking for a good yet affordable chrysoberyl, Tan sometimes has such pop up occasionally. My 3.7 ct chrysoberyl was only $600.

I like the twisted shank and last split shank trillion designs. If the last one is less straight (more curvature or swoopy), I'm sure it'll look more feminine and delicate.

I like the last one in gold too - sort of a "supergirl" setting but very nice ;))

I like some of those designs...I realllly like the very first one. That is cool!

I goofed though....the one on Primagems eBay site is still there..must not be the same stone. This is the one I saw on his eBay site.

Thats .95ct, 6.1mm, and $119.99

His pic doesn't look good, looks almost more like a drawing than a picture of a stone. I generally go by descriptions as much as I can though, as I know firsthand how hard it is to get accurrate pictures...as long as its a vendor I trust.

Also...Im so glad you like that little Chryso I sold you...that was a nice little bright stone. If it was twice the size I would never have sold it :-) You know me, I cannot get into small stones. I've tried..

Its a good thing I'm not 'into' Diamonds...haha!

I vote for the bezeled and V-prong design.
Your mint stone will look better tin that in terms of color and brilliance.

If you are going with diamonds then my vote is with TL's setting in rose gold.

If you are going more modern without diamonds then I love the trillion set at an angle so it is not a traditional triangle if you know what i mean.

Love the first setting and it'd be perfect with rose gold BUT your trillion is much bigger than the one in that photo so it'd be a very chunky ring - you could of course slim down the depth of the gold but you still need it to be wider than the trillion. Are you wanting a big look or something more delicate?

Gorgeous stone! I'm a sucker for mint garnets.

Okay guys, I have finally gotten off my butt and asked DanielM for a quote, for one with the point up in a v-tip/part-bezel setting with a twisted split shank. In rose gold, of course.

Got the first CADs - they have prongs on the flat side (top in this picture) instead of a semi-bezel so I noted that, otherwise all looks good to me.

Great design, Distracts! I really like it -- different. The rose gold is perfect. Will love seeing it once it's ready.

Oooh, I like! So you're going to have a bezel along the top edge of the stone, per that picture?

Yep, here are the updated CADs:

Look good to everyone?

I love the 2nd round of cads

Here's something a touch radical just for kicks; how about the trilliants actually sitting inside the curve? This way, you won't have that bar of metal sitting out there because it is already part of that swoopy curve. The V tip goes away too because the remaining sits in a notch made on the opposing curve of metal.

You won't hurt my feelings if you think that's a trashy design. :)) What you have as is is beautiful. I'm just thinking outside the box a little.

Amazing the difference the half bezel makes. With the two prongs along the "flat" side, it looked a little clunky, but the bezel makes it look cleaner and uncluttered. Happy New Year, I think it will look great. One thing that I can never tell with CADs - is there any way to make the metal a little less thick to have proportionately more stone, if that makes any sense?

I've asked for it to be set as low as possible but that's as low as the CAD can show it, I think. It's deep enough so that in order for it to be set actually in the curves they would have to come up a lot higher and be less like a twisted shank and more like walls. I did think about that but ultimately it's just not my style enough to be something I'd wear regularly. And it's going to be an index finger ring so I want the sides to be as low and unobtrusive as possible. (I thought that the pointy end of the trillion kind of went well with my pointer finger... or something.)

Yeah, I was really perplexed about how I would set it until I found the semi-bezel pictures. It not only looks cleaner but I think a little unusual in a good way as well.

I think the metal amount will be fine. My last CADs from DanielM looked clunkier than these and that ring is very delicate and swoopy. And I never updated that thread, I'm realizing. I'll have to do that.

Although I do wonder if the crossy-overy parts should be more round like wires instead of flat on the sides, but I feel like I've already asked for one change and don't want to ask for another. Even if the first change was something in my initial request that was overlooked and this is something I'm just now thinking of. *wibble* Maybe it will look better this way? I don't know. I don't think I've ever seen crossover rings like this in person so I have no effing clue.

I think the flat crossover goes well with the overall design. Although I love rounded crossovers, it just doesn't quite look right in this case. Greenlake has a lot of rounded wire metalwork if you are curious to get a feel of what it might look like.
