Mine Diamond Rings

I have a old diamond ring and people keep asking me if it is a "mine Diamond." What exactly is a mine diamond, how does it differ from a regular diamond, and how do you tell the difference between the two? Thanks lewcielaharra ( :

Does it look anything like THESE ?

If so it is an "old mine cut" - a different cut or shape or cut that is still done today but dates back from well before the round brilliant - hence the "old" word in the name.
