But then, I'm not exactly sure what her personality is - - she seems to be rather all over the place in knowing herself. Or is just me?

The ring is pretty. I give the relationship a few years. She's not grown up enough for marriage.

Oh I don't know. I got married at 20 (to a 30 year old Frenchman I had only known for a month) and, 15 years and one adorable 7 year old later, we're still going strong :)

(I do realize how rare that is)

I know I didn't know how rare it was either!!! i took one look at my hubby soon after we met and said I bet we get married. :cheeky:

Erica, I should of asked you to show me picsl i would of loved to have seen them! that is great!!!! I got married at 24! I just saw this statistic on marriage under the age of 25.

An oft-quoted study from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that age does indeed matter: 48% of those who marry before age 18 are more likely to divorce within 10 years, compared with 24% of those who marry after age 25.

I love her ring btw

I love how they say the center is "extra special" because it is an old cut. We have plenty of "extra" special diamonds then around here too!

It is a pretty ring. My friend has quite a bit of Neil Lane and the craftsmanship is to die for. Insanely overpriced, but hey.

I agree statistically, the marriage doesn't have a great chance, but you never know!

I agree that it's a beautiful ring and I love the fact that it is supposedly an antique diamond. I think more and more people are seeing their beauty!

Now as for the marraige, I wish them well but I certainly have my doubts about it being a long marraige but we shall see!

The article has more info on the stone:
"The center stone has a special history — the cushion-cut diamond dates back to the late 19th century. "It was hand-cut around 1880 or 1890 and it's unique and in its original form," Lane told People. "At that time no two diamonds were alike, as they were all hand-cut, so it's fascinating to look at because it hasn't been re-cut to look contemporary over the years. I find that really romantic." As for the setting, which features smaller diamonds to accent the large main stone: "The light flashes and sparkles no matter where Miley moves her hand.""

We are SO ahead of the trends here on PS! :cheeky:

I really love this ring. I've never seen a Neil Lane in person, but the settings that they've been choosing on The Bachelor have not been my style. This one, though? I wouldn't say no to this one!

Ps should be a focus group as we do often know trends way before they happen world wide.. I joined in 2004, and Halos were all over PS but not in stores... Now 2012, it's halo halo halo..

I adore her ering, and love that it's in YG. Love that it's a cushion. I wish them all the best.

My thoughts as a mom would be what's the rush do a long engagement, because his career is about to be on fire. And has many long standing movies to film and won't be around much...

But yay for an old cushion and yellow gold....

I broadly think of OMC's as being mid 1800's through the turn of the century, with OEC's to follow (with overlap). But then you also have "early OEC's" and "late OEC's", etc., and different locations were producing different cuts at different times. But very generally, you can think of it as the evolution in the sophistication of cutting on a timeline continuum:

OMC (off round, very rustic)/Cushion (getting more symmetrical)/Early OEC (still mineish and slightly rustic)/OEC (what you think of as traditional OEC faceting)/Late OEC (facets getting tighter, more symmetrical)/Transitional/Early RB...

Culet size also follows this to some degree, with the largest culets seen in OMC's and Cushions (which technically fall under the OMC umbrella), then they get smaller as you move along the timeline.

Lately we've been seeing newly cut stones being represented as old (OEC's and Cushions), and one of the giveaways is symmetry that's too precise, small or no culets in stones that should have them (and culets that are far too symmetrical or rectangular in shape), etc. There are many other ways of determining whether a stone is likely to be antique versus newly cut, but these are just some notable ones.

Thanks, Erica! I loved reading the history! What is really interesting is that different locations were producing different cuts at different times, which I think I see reflected when searching UK vs US for old diamonds and rings!

Love, Love, Love the ring!!

Here's a paparazzi pic of Miley wearing the actual ring. I think the stock photo (page one) is a round stone, and nowhere near the 3.5 carat size it is preported to be, but on her hand it looks more like a cushion, and looks like a 3.5 ct centerstone. I read somewhere that Neil Lane had to modified the setting to accomodate the stone Liam chose, and added some additional stones o the setting as well.

Here is another handshot..

That is beautiful! Surely Neil Lane custom made the setting to fit the stone.

(I'll add that we beat the odds, too...we were 21!)

It's gorgeous, I adore it!!!

Sounds like there is a very romantic story behind your marriage! I love it!

Ditto! I'll admit that I'm curious but don't want to be nosy. :))

Awww, I don't mind sharing!

DH was here on a visitor visa from France, staying with friends who owned a martial arts studio. Being a 2nd degree blackbelt in taekwondo, he was volunteering in the studio teaching the kids most weekdays. I signed up for kickboxing classes with a girlfriend and that's how we met.

We fell madly in love but his visa was expiring and he had to go back. So...we got married! Seriously. It was either that, I move to France (which I entertained, but I wanted to finish college) or break up!

My poor parents, I can't believe they went along with it. I think they fully expected me to flake out at the last minute, lol, but I went for it!

I will say that we've had many rough patches to work through, due to cultural differences (which we would have been more prepared for if we had known each other longer) and the 10 year age difference. We work really hard at our marriage, and the added difficulties of marrying very young make things even more challenging.

What a wonderful story! Thank you for sharing.

I like the ring... but not on her hands... I dunno.. they make her fingers look short and fat (which they are not)...

Gorgeous, i'd wear that for sure!!!
