Midwest GTG - anyone game for the August gem show?

We had a thread on a Midwest GTG a while back but it kind of petered out so I''m hoping to rekindle some interest.

I''ve been looking at the gem show schedule for the fall/winter and there are shows in Rosemont (right outside of Chicago) on August 25-27 and December 8-10.

Anyone want to get together? I definitely plan on going to the August show and it would be a lot more fun with a bunch of PSers than trying to drag my unwilling husband along, LOL!

Just keep the thread active and I''ll see if I can get to the August one. That is a chance as I will be working a lot of hours.

December should be much easier as I will be on short hours by then.

Perry - I''m so glad someone responded--I was starting to feel all on my own in the Midwest here!

Even if we do an August outing there''s no reason we can''t do December too, so let''s try to work something out for the timing that''s best for you.

I''m up for a midwest GTG. August should be good however there is a possibility that I could be in Korea and Japan during that time. If that falls through then I''m game!
 
Crap, I can''t make it! I already committed to an annual camping trip with friends and family for that weekend...I will be zipping up my sleeping bag that weekend with a huge sigh of regret that I''m not in an A/C building looking at beautiful sparklies! Sorry I won''t be able to join you...

This is the same weekend as company''s 15year anniversary party (which I co-planned) on Saturday and Cubs vs Cards on Sunday. Anytime after that weekend would be anticipated with giddiness!!!
 
Thought I''d bump this back up to see if *anyone* wants to go to the gem show with me or if it''s gonna have to be the poor hubby...

The august one is better for me, I''ll be in Texas in Dec for my little brothers wedding.
 
OK, I''ll keep bumping this thread and as we get closer we can make a plan. Hopefully others can join us too!
 
Can''t make a committment yet; but working on ideas.

Where would we meet? You are more familiar with the area. Note that I am allergic to tobaco smoke and need to stay out of resturants and bars that allow it (just having a non smoking section is usually inadequte).

I''ll see what I can find in the way of meeting places. I really don''t know anything about the area so give me a little time to research and I''ll post some ideas.

Well...it's maybe 1/2 mile-1 mile south of Higgins (IL72) on Des Plaines River Rd...

All that's around (that I can think of) are parking garages, a Blue Line stop, a hotel, and the convention center. Who knows.

OK kids, time for some info so I can get this together.

Do you prefer Saturday or Sunday?

What time of day is best? The show is from 10-6 on Saturday and 11-5 on Sunday.

There are a variety of restaurants and hotels nearby; any preferences?

(Perry, to be conscious of your restrictions I was thinking of a restaurant with outdoor seating. Not sure what I'll be able to locate, but does that sound good if I can find it?)

I wanted to respond...but I''m afraid I can''t be helpful right now. =) Sat or Sun is fine with me, and I don''t think I have anything going on so the time of day doesn''t really matter to me as of now. I''m exhausted from traveling on this crazy weekend...but if I think of anything I''ll let you know!

Well rats...wished I was still visiting with strmrdr...i''d make him take me to your gathering, ( could have shown off strms insanias giggle ) but now I am back east...oh well, someday when I finally live out there, we will have to do another GTG. Hope ya''ll have fun tho :}

So far I''m still in [anniversary is the 23rd so waiting to see if any plans that weekend]. Saturday is better for me but I could still do Sunday if that''s the choice.
 
Saturday is better for me too. Maybe we could have lunch and then go to the show? I''ll wait for Perry and Grace (and anyone else--where is Storm?) to chime in and then work on a more solid plan.

BTW, has anyone ever been or a gem show before? I have no idea what they have at these events. I have visions of miles and miles of loose stones and mountings and other made-up pieces of jewelery and who knows what else, but really I have no clue what to expect. Maybe the perfect setting for my 3.37 round will even magically appear--wouldn''t that be nice?!
 
I just found this thread, and I am sooo tempted to come. I''d love to meet everyone, and I''ve never been to Chicago or a gem show before either. (Well, I''ve been to the airport, but that doesn''t count.) I''ll run it by FI when he gets home from work. It looks like I''m about 4 hours away, though, according to Mapquest. Does anyone know if the construction on 94''s gotten any better?

Not sure about the construction on 94 but I''ll find out on Thursday when I * GO * TO * PEARLMANS * !!! (Yes, I''m making a little--long overdue--trip to visit Bill!!! )

I''d be coming from Ann Arbor. I keep meaning to go visit Pearlman''s sometime -- it''s not that far away. Please tell me how the construction is!

Just want to throw out a meeting place suggestion: How 'bout Harry Caray's? It's kind of a fun Chicago restaurant and they have a variety of stuff on the menu. (menu)

They also have outdoor seating so hopefully this will be good for Perry too, and this restaurant is about 2 miles from the convention center.

Let me know what you guys think. If this does't appeal to you I'll keep calling around. There seem to be no lack of restaurants in Rosemont!

ETA: Forgot to say that maybe we could meet for lunch (they open at 11:30 and then go to the show?)
 
august is out for me :{

dec doesnt look good either, we usually work most weekends in dec.
 
I love Harry''s! There''s also a RAM close by that''s pretty good, but Harry''s is fabulous!
 
So is everyone OK with Saturday as opposed to Sunday? I have to work an open house that Sunday (ah, the life of a realtor!) so if we do the get together on Sunday the timing will most likely be a bit wonky. (Or you all could do it without me of course, but I would HATE to miss it!)

If I/we can come, Saturday would probably be better anyway. From the menu, the restaurant looks good too!
