Hi! I personally like the one from Blue Nile better but they are indeed very similar. I am also torn between a simple solitaire setting and something with a bit more detail. One of the jewelry stores I went to showed me a setting which faced up like a simple solitaire but had diamonds outlining a simple trellis design on the side. I think this would be a perfect combination of simple + a little something extra. Perhaps it might work for you, as well? The band of the trellis setting right now is too thick for me so I will inquire as to whether the trellis+diamond idea can be custom made with a thinner band.

If you want a plain solitaire with some pizazz Mark Morrell can't be beat! His prong work is to die for and his profiles are gorgeous!

ditto to this. if you want a little more bling, maybe something like this?

Vatche also makes a similar setting that is gorgeous.

ETA here is the Vatche one, I think I prefer this one to the BGD since it looks like a band would sit flush?

I was about to recommend the Vatche Caroline as well! I did a thread with my daughter's e-ring last November. It is definitely one of the most beautiful plain solitaires! She wears it with a diamond band and it is a great combination!

Others I like: Leon Mege classic solitaire, WF Legato sleekline, BGD Truth, Tiffany knife edge

I prefer plain solitaires over pave solitaires because wearing both a diamond ering and wband kind of makes the main diamond blend into all the bling. I also like that you can have more than one wband if you want some variety!

http://www.jamesallen.com has a lot of beautiful solitaire settings. I got my ring from there and considered a solitaire. This one is really beautiful:

they also have some solitaire with small stones in them like this one:

I actually got that setting with the micro pave side stones (http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/18k-White-Gold-Double-Claw-Prong,-Surprise-Diamond-Engagement-Ring.html)
