hi-

I am getting a band with a micro pave setting and the jeweler said he would not recommend having the diamonds go all the way around since they can fall out easily when worn everyday. i am pretty rough with my hands, but i do really like diamonds all around a band. what do you guys think? also, if i get one with diamonds that don''t go all the way around, is it easy enough to add the remaining diamonds after if i am not happy with it?i

I know there has been many discussions regarding the strength and durablity of Pave Bands. I suggest doing a search on Pave or Pave bands and you''ll come up with tons of threads I''m sure.

Good Luck!

Well, as with any pave work, there is a chance a stone may fall out, but if made correctly the micro-pave does not represent any greater risk than regular pave. It is a more delicate setting, so I wouldn''t go banging my rings around all the time, but if you love the look of an eternity style ring, then go for it. If you are doing something particularly hard with your hands, don''t wear the ring(s). BTW, it is not just an easy thing to have more diamonds put on the band if you decide that you want them all the way around instead of halfway...you''d have to have a new ring made. So it is something to think seriously about now, before you have the ring made.

thanks- it''s a tough call. i really love the look of it going all the way around, but i don''t want to have to bring my ring back into the jewler often to replace missing stones. I am just worried i won''t love the ring as much if it''s not all the way around.

Honestly, I can''t remember of this one - that eternity style rings are more prone to loosing stones... Not really.

The barren patch does make resizing somewhat easier, but not all that much: diamond set bands still cannot be drastically resized because bending them further does make the diamond pop up (or at least loosen, makig the resizing not much easier than remaking the thing). Well, as much as I know.

Having diamonds all around the finger prohibits resizing completely - that I know. That it makes the ring fragile does not sound quite right: at least this is not a well-known "failure" of such designs. The bands do need to be heavy enough to hold their shape though - and what is safe from this point of view I could not describe in detailed technical terms - I am not a jeweler. You might want to ask yours how paved eternity bands can be made durable - by all accounts, this is feasible.

You could ask on a new thread what makes eternity bands wearable, perhaps some of the bench jewelers posting on this forum will catch up with the question. "Feydakin" makes some useful comments along this line on this thread.

my jeweler had the same misgivings re: eternity pave, and it wasn''t even micropave we were considering.

because i did worry and we did want eternity, we went with a slightly more durable eternity, with more metal. result was slightly thicker ring but with the eternity style. however nowhere near that all diamond micropave look.

his feeling was that with those settings you don''t have enough metal to hold in the diamonds against everyday wear and tear...it may also depend on how hard you are on your rings, i didn''t want to have to worry or not wear them or anything like that, so we decided to go more durable.

but others have purchased pave or micropave and been fine, don''t know about very long term..maybe someone can chime in....

oh and eternity rings can be sized just slightly...i had mine done 1/4 without any problems, but anything more than that and it may compromise the setting/stones and/or take more work.

good luck!

There is a new thread on Show Me the Ring By Jade Leaves.....Platinum Smith custom made her e-ring and now a matching band with a space on the bottom that is not pave....he also added an inscription on the inside of the band rather than pave (since the two rings would rub together)........

thanks for the post - jade leaves ring is very pretty. i just don''t know if having that little space will bother me. i have a friend in the jewlery business who i trust very much and even she thinks i would be crazy to do micro pave all around the band. the jeweler called the ring designer and he said i could add the stones at a later date, but again, i have heard mixed things about this issue as well. i tend to go with my first instinct, so i am sure i will just do it all the way around and hope for the best. i guess in reality, the stones are so small that if 1 or 2 fell out, i don''t think it would really show that much on the bottom of the ring.
