Another celebrity passing away today. Unbelievable. He is incredibly talented even though he may have acted rather strangely the last few years.

Ok... Weeeeeeiiirrdddd music video. Especially considering the song was from Free Willy.. But even at a young age I remember this song really touching me. I always thought it was so beautiful.

Sorry I''m late back to the thread ladies.... I had to put my family to bed.... Well except for DH.....

Still over here paying my own personal tribute.... Just so sad for his family, ya know???
Yes! I can''t imagine how is Mom is, she must be so heavy hearted... Oh how she loved him. Then I think of Janet.

I am sure all the brothers are devastated. My heart goes out to all of them...

Jermaine Jackson was on to make a statement. He was so choked up, my eyes just filled up with tears.

Just too much. My heart goes out to them. Oh how they will grieve and mourn this loss. May they have peace in the days ahead. And the privacy to deal with this, but that will be a tall order for sure....

I''ll say. They keep showing over and over and over, his body being put into the helicopter, etc. enough is enough.

I think the guy was very very troubled. And I also think he was a genius.

i am extremly sadden by this. I have been a Micheal fan for life, i have vinyls of Micheal music. I sang Ben for a performance....

What a bummer. So talented and so tragic a person.... I hope he''s finally found the peace and happiness I feel he was always looking for.

I''ve been going through his videos. Some of my faves.

Dangerous

Beat It

The Way you Make Me Feel Such a sexy song....

"Billie Jean" is my favorite Michael Jackson song. This video clip does not allow you to hear much of the song, but allows you to see a really brilliantly choreographed dance number-a Moonwalk-if you watch it. This version allows you to hear the whole song and watch Michael sing it in front of a live audience. I like this second video of the song more than its official music video which seems to have little to do with the lyrics to the song!

Good riddance. My world is a better place without him in it as I have NO doubts about his child molesting ways. As to his musical talent, he had some but I can think of several more talented musicians IMO. Stevie Wonder or Carlos Santana were more talented. Jackson was an entertainer and a great one. Unfortunately his sleazy proclivities managed to make that point moot.

His Moonwalk was perfection, and this clip shows that. I heard he practiced his dance moves all the time. He was all about perfection. a constant professional. He was a special guy, who wil be sorely misssed. I love that clip Deb...

This has to be the most sickening post I have read, since I have joined PS.

I have a long list of people (murderers, dictators, child molesters) I think the world would be better off without. Jackson just happened to be on it.

Wow. Disgusting venomous words PP.

Michael Jackson was such a tremendous, talented individual whose impact on the world of music was immeasurable. My absolute favorite song was Billie Jean. And who can resist bobbing their head when Thriller comes on!!!

Sadly, the man who died today wasn''t the entertainer we all knew as Michael Jackson. He had long since checked out of Neverland and into LaLa Land.

The waste of his talent was a horrible shame. The man he became was shameful horror.

What a dismal (and unsurprising) end for someone who had once been the world''s most popular musical entertainer.
I totally disagree! He was about to embark on a 50 date sold out tour, and could have done endless dates I''m sure with the same result. I would still LOVE to have seen him in concert, but I in no way think that I could compete with the die-hard fans that he had in order to get tickets!

His talent was incredible, and inspiring, and if you don''t agree, then maybe the memorials and tributes that his life is going to inspire will convince you otherwise. People do far less in their lives without being called wasted talent, and he was relevant for 3 decades, which is no small feat. I still listen to his album that came out in 2001, and it literally gives me chills. I can think of no other performer whose video releases were cause for huge media events on major network TV... Smooth Criminal, Bad... the world literally stopped to take note of what this amazing artist was up to.

This man transcended race, gender, language, sexuality, ideology... and he was a true non-conformist individual. He brought people together.

He is easily the most relevant performer in most people on this forums lifetimes. And will continue to be, until our own eventual deaths.

ETA: Link is MJ''s cover of ''Come Together''
IMHO, no he wasn''t. Part of what kept him in the spotlight was his struggle to stay relevant. Many people who listened to him in the early days moved on and dismissed him, simply cherishing music from the old days.

However, he was a great talent. The rest, is just speculation to me and I don''t care to speculate at this time.

I am sad for his death, but also relieved that he may now finally have found peace.

I really think that this could have been worded better.

Something along the lines of:

"I''m having a tough time feeling any emotions over his death. I have strong feelings on the allegations he faced on child abuse and molestation and am having a difficult time feeling any sort of sympathy for someone who could have been involved in something that I despise. He definitely was a great entertainer, it''s just a shame that his days in the media seemed to be more focused on his shortcomings that his entertaiment. I just really found that, by the end, I couldn''t see him as a great entertainer and could only focus on the parts that struck me as vile and made me angry"

Or ya know. . .you could''ve said nothing at all.

Although I agree with PP about a lot of things, by now I would think most regular PSers would know that PP does not care about how things are worded, nor does she care that she may offend someone.

Nice try though.

Now for my opinion:

A great entertainer died today and for all the people who love anyone who has been in Pop music since Thriller came out, you''ve been influenced by him too. All these types of dance that the stars do today, you can see the roots in things that Michael Jackson started (Justin Timberlake, any boy or girl pop group, hip-hop artists with their "poppin''" dance thing going on).

I felt bad for him in the end because he just seemed like he was on this downward spiral. No longer an entertainer but treated as a side-show freak. He obviously had his issues, but I don''t think a person''s time of death is an appropriate time to bring them up.

It''s sad that people have to die before we start to treat them like human beings and focus on their good parts. Everytime a person would make a statement on the news that mentioned his shortcomings, the newscasters would be quick to change the subject and talk about his music, his influence on pop culture, etc. I wish that we could have done this to him, and to others, when he was alive. Maybe he wouldn''t have been so miserable.

The point is, someone died. And this someone is someone''s son. Someone''s brother. And in this case, someone''s father. And that makes it upsetting.

This person also happens to be, as far as I can see, one of the most (if not the most) influential entertainer of our times.

I hope that they continue to focus on this and give the family as much privacy as they can. They have always been one of the most public families in pop history. I hope they will be ok.

Yes we know it, but we can still say it.

OK. Clearly I have *ahem* a bit more history under my belt than most of you all. My earliest Michael Jackson memory is of my friends and I hanging around the neighborhood park during summer break, listening to the Jackson 5 sing ABC (I think the Archies'' Sugar was a hit at about the same time..) and later, I Want You Back. I can still picture the group performing I Want You Back on some TV variety show.I wasn''t listening to as much pop music when Thriller came out, but I do remember seeing the videos. Didn''t Michael Jackson pretty much ignite the whole break dancing craze? I also remember lots of little kids showing off their moonwalks and doing the one glove thing at Halloween. Like him or not, he had a significant influence on more than one generation.

As for the rest, I see him as more tragic than sinister.

Oh, it wasn''t about whether or not she cares. I just found it distasteful and thought that, instead of just jumping on her like I knew others would, I would just let her know that she can get her point across better if she wasn''t so crass. There''s a difference between being blunt and being offensive.

I''d like to think someone who likened herself to those "with breeding" in another thread wouldn''t need such a reminder, but I guess I''m just a navy brat with a Daddy who comes from, and has his kin-folk in, Shelby County, Tennessee (last part said with a stereotypical Southern accent). What do I know?

Since everyone is talking about PP in the 3rd person like she isn''t reading, I think this is a good time to say that I''ve always pictured her to be like "Ouiser" from Steel Magnolias. A little crass at times, but a loveable character nonetheless.
