Hey everyone, well with everyones help here, I recently picked out, purchased and presentedd my girls E-ring. Now I have a question about my soon to be ring.

I have decided to go with the "real" lord of the rings "one ring" from the original maker in New Zealand for my band. https://www.jenshansen.com/shop.asp

Price is not really a factor, so should I go with 18k or 14k yellow gold? I have heard that 18k is too soft? Is this true? What should I take into consideration?

Thoughts?

OH MY GOD....too funny. That's the ring that we just bought for my FI! We bought the 18K and it's GORGEOUS!

However, Rich works on computers and he isn't a gearhead, so his ring won't be taking the kind of abuse that some men put their rings through. Maybe that's something to consider in selecting.

Wait until you get it.....it is breathtaking. VERY weighty! Oh, and in the pricing, factor in that you will get a bill from customs for about $41 after paying for the ring.

I own both 18k and 14k rings and I do think 18k tends to ding up more easily than 14k...it depends, as al says, what kind of work/daily activity you'll be doing.

Congrats on a super cool ring!

Another thing to consider is the "dissapearing ring" factor. I believe it will happen more with 18k than with 14k, since it's softer, but that's just a guess (especially since platinum is "soft", and doesn't dissapear, just gets pushed around). There is a thread that discusses it here:

I dunno. I know it's just psychological, but 14K just seems too cheap for a wedding ring.
