Measurements????

Hi,
I want to know what these measurements tell me.
7.19 X 7.24 X 4.57

The first number is what, the second is what and the third is what? (ex: width, height, etc.)

I read posts saying that "oh that diamond faces up 1 carat when it is actually a .90"
I would like to know how they know that. Would the meausrements above give me that info?

Width, width (measured perpendicular to measurment #1 as the second measurement, I believe), and height, yes.

In my opinion if the stone is a round shape it would weight around 1.45 carats.
If a square shape than it would weight approx. 1.90 carats.

7.19 is width, 7.24 is lenght, 4.57 is depth in mm. size.

Hi Skippy.

I'm not clear about the shape of the stone, but if it's a RB, I agree with DiaGem that the stone is about 1.45 carats. Here is a thread that gives equations to calculate carat weight from measurements for various shapes:

I believe these formulas are based on ideal proportions, so the accuracy in a particular application probably depends on how well the actual diamond is cut.

The carat weight formula for RB (with ideal proportions) is diameter x diameter x depth x 0.0061. You could probably back-figure with this formula for a RB to figure what the diameter should be for a certain carat weight. For example, I believe the depth on a Tolkowsky is 59.3%. Therefore, depth = 0.593 x diameter.

diameter x diameter x 0.593 x diameter x 0.0061 = 1.45
diameter = 7.37 mm

For a 1.45 carat diamond cut with ideal proportions, the diameter should be around 7.37 mm. I agree with Avlis that this diamond is deep, which is why it may "face-up" small.

Another thing to look at if this is a RB is how much variation is there between the first two diameter measurements. If they are close, then the circle is pretty plumb, but if they vary by a lot, the circle is out-of-round.

depends on the shape.
For a round yes for pretty much any other shape it isnt.
