measurements for a 1 carat princess cut?

a little on the small side. the "average" decent-cut princess is around 5.5 x 5.5.

mind you, does that necessarily make your princess a "bad" one. not from what i''ve read. princesses are not easy to determine cut quality simply by numbers alone like a rbc is.

Can''t say anything about its light performance but yes it does faceup a bit smaller for its weight, but within the variance for well cut princess stones.
Post the certificate and an ASET if you want us to tell you more.

It does look as if it is facing up slightly small for its weight, is this stone for sale online or from a jewellery store?

While not an ideal size for carat weight, one should be careful as this one http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-2152681.htm
has a pretty nice cut and faces up even smaller than the one you posted.
