May I post pictures of my rough

well that egg has some outter inclusions, but you can see gem inside it. Its not blocky, but not water clear either. I would also mention teh intense orange manadarin color it exhibits, like most of these stones. The pictures because of the fact they are not professionally taken dont reflect these details. In any case we hope to hear back from GIA tomorrow.

Thank you all for your comments. I plan on updating everyone as soon as we know. I would also mention I found many clear white ones without color or a slight orange tint to it.

Tibetan Andesine anyone  - and the closer you get to the source the more likely you are to encounter synthetics.

The guy who went there and wrote about it (the one where he didn't get to a actual mine)- his stones turned out to be synthetics?

I tried to recreate some of the pics with my carnelian rough..from New Jersey

They were Andesine but the whole mine had been salted before they got there. I attended a very interesting talk on them by GRS a couple of weeks ago. Basically, a load of copper-bearing red andesine appeared on the market and it was claimed it was from Tibet. It's only know to come from Oregon, plus there's a load of diffusion treated stones doing the rounds. So they set off to Tibet to try and find the stuff in situ. The mine they are taken to is a complete hoax. However, it looks like Richard Hughes found the real deal at another location the following year.

Based on the pictures, I would bet money it is carnelian. I have 2 pieces I plan to facet in free time. One of them came from Barrett and is actually from New Jersey from the same source.

hmmm..said.."next day from GIA"
I wonder if they got the news that it was carnelian and not the garnets they hoped for?
Hopefully they will come back and post but this is usually what happens when folks find out what they thought was something great turned out to be something else...
hopefully thats not the case here but I won't hold my breath

True amguy, Ive been looking for the update too. At least the stones were collected by the OP in a riverbed rather than bought . Odd coincidence, I received a parcel of carnelian in the mail the day this thread started.
