Mastercut gems end of summer sale!

I picked up a red-orange spessartite that is super red and sparkly. It's going to be set as a gift for my mom. And I also got a pinky purple spinel that has lots of tiny crackley or crystaly (?) inclusions that looks like fizzy glitter inside the stone. I'm keeping it for myself. Still hunting for a stone for my sister; but she's never as enthusiastic about them as me, lol. 20180825_153725.jpg20180825_153645.jpg

But I had to post it here in case anyone else wants. It’s a perfect shade and so bright for a sapphire!

Wasn’t there someone looking for a purple sapphire? You should post this in her thread!

I haven't seen those! Love the cushion and I'm looking for a purple stone myself.

While helping my friend look for a grey spinel I tried to get her to buy this one. After really looking she decided she prefers a cushion cut, so I snapped this one up for myself. He states it has very good light return. There is something so beautiful about a mystical sparkly grey spinel to me. It also happens to be my middle name, so it literally was calling my name! Will post pics when I receive, hopefully tomorrow.20180830_071240.jpg

I wish I had spare pennies for the oval ?sky blue Topaz egg for a pendant!

DK :))

I received my ruby pair and iolite parcel last week but was too busy to post. Here are my (terrible) pictures.
Rubies 3.jpg Rubies 5.jpg
IRL, the rubies are cute little glow-y stones--a little sleepy, and more pinkish red than I was expecting. The description given was "cinnamon candy red". Actual Red Hots (the candy) look more like red "closer to the orange side of red" red than these. These are more red "closer to the pinkish purple side of red" red. Hopefully, that makes some kind of sense. After I explained my color analysis to my husband, he looked at me and asked "Are you deranged?" Anyway, for the price I paid, I'm still thrilled.

The iolites are very purplish blue and most are on the darker side. Some show pleochroism, from violet to almost clear, but most don't. I'm not disappointed because they were, frankly, dirt cheap and I bought them for practicing stone setting. Overall, I'm quite pleased with my purchase.

I'm still heartbroken that I didn't buy that gorgeous blue sapphire, though... Sigh... :blackeye:

I'm getting some small stones to try gem setting too! I set a 5mm blue-green tourmaline the other day into prongs. Going to get a couple 3mm fire opals from Yvonne for side stones.

Aw, Natasha, stop beating yourself up about this. Another one will come around and then you'll be more ready. /hugs

After missing the mail lady TWICE I finally got my grey spinel. She is quite hard to photograph, especially while a thunderstorm is happening. Mastercut called her grey with a secondary purple-pink. I'm going to call her Midnight purple. She is much more purple to my eye than these pics. I LOVE it. 20180901_184721.jpg20180901_184802.jpg20180901_184949.jpg

This is the only gem I bought from this current sale. I had been eyeing it for quite some time. It’s ok. Sometimes I like it but I don’t love it. It does have a lot of fire scintillation that I couldn’t seem to photograph but for some reason I’m kind of meh about it over all. It does seem to like my bathroom lighting, the last two photos that show it as purple.

Thank you for all the great pics, Hivona!
Sorry for the late response - "real" life has been taking up valuable PS time :kiss2:

I have a lavender/pink Burma spinel on its way in a cushion cut, don't normally buy loose stones but this one was so pretty, will share when it arrives!

Ooh do share the vendor pic. I’ve been sweating over those and never quite pulled the trigger

Got my first Mastercut gem today! It won't be my last for certain :Up_to_something2:

First two pics are vendor's and the rest are mine.

Terrible cell phone pics, but she's a beauty! I'm considering an east-west setting with round side diamonds.P_20180911_201811.jpg P_20180911_201636.jpg

I did a last minute impulse purchase from the summer sale and got this really pretty parti-color sapphire. It's yellow-blue-green and super sparkly. I love it! It's a carat and measures a smidge under 6mm. The colors shift beautifully as I move the stone around. The yellow is more intense than the pictures show. I have no idea how to set this, so I'll need help! I took a picture next to my 14k white gold and 18k yellow gold bands. I'll probably start a thread to get the advice I'll need.

@natasha-cupcake I think your sapphire is rather pretty. I would set it in a bezel stacking ring. Your top picture had me wishing the blue had longer "tails" so it would look like a yin-yang motif.

that's very pretty! i love unheated & color zoned tanzanite. maybe someone else can weigh in on whether it's worth snapping up, the price of tanzanite varies so much. but the cut on that stone is unusually beautiful. fwiw here is my birthstone ring with a similar color but native cut...it was about $350 including setting.

Pretty! Yes I’d love feedback on that stone as I am not knowledgeable about tanzanite at all.

@lovedogs or anyone else really, do you guys know when the next Mastercut Sale is on?

Those are beautiful  I wouldn't have bought them based on their pics but I would have on yours :wink2:
