Massages, ManiPedi, No thank you.

I love everything touchy. I do NOT love people making small talk while performing these services. Like I am here to relax and not have to worry about conversing. Usually I just tell them I’m trying to destress and don’t want to chat. Everybody wins; I’m sure they don’t mind the mental break of just being able to do their job.

This is an interesting thread! I have never had a massage because I can't really get into the idea of some stranger touching my body and causing pain! I have almost always done my own fingernails but would go 2-3 times a year for a pedicure since I wear flip flops or sandals for about 8 months out of the year! However, COVID gave me the opportunity to just grow out those toenails and get rid of all the polish, and I just have a foot tool to use in the shower. I already hated sitting there for a pedicure, and I surely didn't want to go after COVID reopenings. So I think I am done with those for good.

The thing I looked most forward to was getting my hair trimmed and colored after the shutdown! I have never used permanent color, but I am still able to use less harmful color for my roots. I can do it at home, but I greatly prefer my hair guy to do it for me! I've gone to the same person for about 32 years, so he's a friend, basically!

Housecleaning is similar. I have never used a service and that might make me uncomfortable. My house cleaning lady has been with me for probably 25 years and was recommended by someone I knew. So I have 100% trust in her and she's been coming every other week for all that time.

I don't like the smell of nail polish so I will rarely get a pedicure. Like once every 2 years when I go to a beach vacation lol. I cook, clean and wash my hands constantly, so no manis. I got one last year and regret it so much. The paint was pulling and squeezing my nails. And nail tech was awful. I grew up surrounded by nail techs so I'm very particular. A tiny smudge, chip or not covering the nail completely drives me insane.

Massages are a medical necessity for me. With a mastectomy and radiation and tons of scars I need a massage and chiro adjustment every two weeks. I finally went last week when my fingers were feeling numb and my shoulders were inflamed. So painful. :-( . I usually go to memorial sloan kettering so I can use my fsa funds. But the best massage I've ever gotten was in Montego Bay, Jamaica. That lady took me apart and put me back together lol.

I can't/ won't cut or dye my own hair. I spent my youth with 1/2 inch bangs (thanks dad) and brassy orange hair. No thanks. Lol. I mostly dye my grays a dark brown. I have patches of gray on my scalp and in certain lighting it looks like I have no hair:-(
