Has anyone decided to use a Mary Kay consultant (one who does weddings) do thiers and thier bm''s makeup on the day of the wedding? We have this woman who is an MK wedding specialist (or somethign like that) that will come to MY house, many times if I need her to, to do a color consult, apply MK makeup on me and any BMs in attendance and will also come to the wedding site on the wedding day to apply MK makeup to ALL bms and me for only $50 total!!!

(I know this is a great way to get us to buy MK products but if they work well then why not anyway...especially if we can try before we buy!!??)

Just wondering if someone can speak to the talents of thier MK person''s makeup application skills?

Thank you!!!!!

At least in my state, you need to have a beautician's license to apply make-up. Unless your consultant is licensed or your state laws are different, I don't think your consultant can apply the make-up for you. Your situation must be different from my state's though. HTH!

ETA: I just started using MK stuff (skincare, mascara, eye shadows, and lipgloss) recently, and I am really pleased with the quality. The try-before-you-buy aspect is also very nice of course! And as far as my consultant, who happens to be sitting behind me in our shared office, knows, MK doesn't train their consultants specifically to apply makeup on other people. Again, this may be because of our state laws. However, since you can have this lady come to your place multiple times to try things out, it sounds like a great deal!

I sell MK sporadically and I''m not legally allowed to touch anybody''s face. The extent of my training was on the way the products work, not what looks good on what skin tones. Most of that is instinct.

Your person may have more training, but if she''s doing your makeup and charging you for it, ask if she has a license. If you don''t really care, that''s fine, but germs and such make me nervous and I would make sure she''s using disposable applicators on everyone.

hmmm....I''ll ask her about any licensesure she may have. but the $50 fee was quoted to me as a way to cover her traveling costs and time on the day of the wedding (as she won''t be there to sell anything i presume but only to help us with the application). so maybe that''s how she gets around this certified stuff?

Unless you know this woman does a great job, and have seen it firsthand, there is no way I would do this. I find it really hard to believe that a MK sales person has much more training than you or I, and I would think she would want everyone''s name and then would bug them down the road to buy makeup. For that matter, you could go to the local dept store and probably have someone do your makeup, and if you arranged it ahead of time, you could probably get some pretty good results with a professional person.

My experiences with most of the door to door sales makeup have not been very good. I know there are some good products there, but no thanks.... She is offering to do it as a business opportunity, and I would not want this to ruin your day.

Okay, so I met with the Mary Kay person because, well, what did I have to lose, right? Well, about $100 for starters

I went for the skincare line but I was in the market for something nice and mid-priced anyway so no biggie. We got a little into makeup and she just CLEARLY does not know her sages from her emeralds which is what I need in a makeup person for my wedding day. I need someone who can look at me and immediately know what colors will be best with my particular set of attributes. This woman was NOT this woman lol. And to top it off, what eyeshadow etc she did show me, I had to put on MYSELF !!!!

I guess I wanted to say that most of you made good points and I wanted to make sure that if anyone else has this question in the future, that they read my un-happy ending. My dreams of a "free" wedding-day makeup professional have been dashed.

BUT......I met with our very well-known "I''ve worked on Julia Roberts" woman around here in RI and payed her good money to do me up right. O...M....G@!!!!

I felt like a model lol. Well.........as model-y as I''ll ever be

. I am SO booking her for my wedding day and I don''t care that she costs $150. She''ll come to ME and put that gunk on me herself and that is a wonderful feeling. It''s like I can mark off the worry of not looking pretty on my wedding day right off my list

....I''m gonna try to put in pictures but I fear my flash might have washed me out a bit (there were so many dimensions and contours that looked SO cool but my darn Cybershot just splashed them right out

.......but maybe it''ll give ya''ll an idea of what it came out like...........

And here I am after the professional was done with me........I see a little shine in this photo and I don''t like it.....she''ll have to make sure she uses more matte products on the big day because I do NOT like shine. She used alot of shimmery stuff here and there, too and the idea sounded nice while she was doing it. I''ll forgo that shimmer because all I see is oil

But I like the colors and how she did my eyes. (She will also do false eyelashes the day of so I can''t WAIT for that!!)

Do y''all think it''s too much? I NEVER wear makeup like this so it felt like ALOT but my sweetie loved it and he didn''t run screaming when he saw me so that''s good. I''m just a mascara and lip gloss kind-a-gal so ALL of this is very weird. I like it tho....I really do.........but I couldn''t wait to wash it off tonight to be honest. I waited as long as I could to judge it''s staying powder and then happily washed my face twice with my new Mary Kay cleaners lol :)

I think you look beautiful! It would be worth it to me as well to pay someone to make me look that great on my wedding day!

It looks really good. Not too much at all. Remember, you are going to be photographed and if you wear ''everyday'' makeup, you are going to look like you have NO makeup on in the pictures.

I''m glad you found out ahead of time the MK rep wasn''t going to work out for your makeup. I accompanied a friend to David''s Bridal the other day and there was an MK rep there at the door to accost people as soon as they walked in the door...and her makeup was SCARY. Not exactly a good rep for the company! I have met good MK reps of course, but not all of them are.

Thank you, FG :) Perhaps your''e right in that although it''s more than I ever wear on a normal basis, it enables me to be seen in photos better. I keep forgetting that. My FI did say that from far away it actually looked even better so perhaps there is something to that. I did contact the makeup lady and asked her to only use matte makeup next time because my skin is really oily and will even shine thru that matte makeup a little. She was worried that matte would give me a chalky look and I don''t know what to say to that except perhaps if I had dry skin it would....but since my face is soooooo good at producing moisture (

) the matte is perfect for me.

She also took that pic of me while one of her kitchen spotlights were shining down on me (along with the flash from the camera) so I wonder if that had something to do with it? I would have liked to see me in the daylight but we were finished at 6:30 and it was dark outside.
