Marquise Help Needed

I’m not a huge fan of any of those options. When I’m looking for a marquise I want one that looks lively all throughout the stone, without a bow tie, and color high enough that you don’t see it concentrate in the tips.

Thank you for the feedback, Niel. We’re obviously novices. We have done some research on the Web, but we’re finding it hard to take what we’ve read and apply it to the photos.

We’re willing to compromise on the color to get a little bigger carat, since it will be set in yellow gold. We’re also wanting to stay in the $3000-$4000 price range.

We eliminated all the Marquise that had thick girdles, because we had read that’s undesireable. Is that not true?

Thanks again!

HI:

Picking a fancy cut can be challenging--so on that score "we here" are like you...are novices.

That said, Niel makes good points (on parameters) --about the concentrations of color, etc...etc.... In short, I like her choice....good spread, great color, and appears eye pleasing.

cheers--Sharon

The stone I suggested is basically the same mm size as the stones you like - look at millimeters, not ctw when comparing size.

As for girdles sure ideally if you can find one with a medium girdle all around that’s great but unfortunately you kind of have to take what you can get. If it performs well, I personally don’t care what the girdle is as long as it’s not making the stone face up small, which this one isn’t.

I understand you were going for compromising in color to get more size. But tou can get a g+ stone that’ll face up (look just as big) as the ones you were looking at and they will look much brighter. Color in Brilliant cut stones like ovals, pears, and marquise get concentrated because of the kind of facets they have. The center, when the color gets too low, will look one color, and the tips will look another because the color gets concentrated in that area.
I’d put my money where you can SEE a differences. If a 1 ct will look the same as a 9 pointer in terms of millimeters- then choose color that will make the shape pop, not look down dingy.

For what it’s worth I still like the f best.

Pretty...Niel is right...look at the length x width not carat weight. Also right about the girdle IMO. You have to find a nice looking marquise with
good light return and sort of hope everything else is acceptable. They are not round brilliants where you can just order up what you want.

Niel has owned a couple of nice marquise so you're in good hands!

Agreed! That F is really nice marquise but Lordy that 11x5mm looks fun lol

Sorry it has taken me so long, but here’s a photo of my engagement ring with the marquise you recommended. Unfortunately, I’ve taken lots of photos and can’t seem to capture just how beautiful this diamond really is, or the setting for that matter. It truly is a gorgeous diamond, and we are so grateful for the help you provided.BA8D9A98-554B-4546-8649-DF9AE9DBD1CB.jpeg
