Hi everyone,

I''m in the process of helping my FMIL pick out a marquise diamond, and have received the ASET image for a marquise that was suggested to me in my previous thread: Marquise Selection Help
I would like any and all thoughts you might have. Is there enough red? Too much green? I''m really not very good with fancy shapes. Thanks!

Here are the stats on the marquise...

Carat: 1.00ct
Color: H
Clarity: SI1
Depth: 65.6%
Table: 56%
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Good
Girdle: Medium to Very Thick
Fl: Strong - but not hazy per vendor
Measurements: 10.03 x 5.03 x 3.30
Ratio: 1.99

I think it looks good.

Thanks TyTy and Julie! I''d really appreciate more opinions, please!

(((Bump)))

I like it. The aset could use more red but I also really like its shape. It''s a good size - not too skinny and not too fat for a marquise. Quite pretty.

Judging by the ASET which is not a well taken image (I'm going to guess its from Jamesallen), this marquise is not returning light as well as the two listed in the other thread and hence you could find better, but its not that bad either for its shape outline. Marquise's are not in high demand so it may be difficult to find more suitable alternaitves.

Hi Snickles,

Did JA provide ASETS for the other 2 diamonds or just this one? The image isn''t great but this is often the case with these shapes, you could if you wished have the stone sent to an appraisers near your MIL so she can see it in person before deciding, but JA do have a good return policy if she ordered it.

iota and CCL, I agree with you. The image makes it a little difficult to really see what''s going on. I can tell that there is a little less red, but I do really like the shape and overall appearance of the diamond.

Lorelei, I only asked for ASETs for this diamond, so far. This is the one that spoke to me. But perhaps I should ask for additional images for another diamond. I will admit, nothing has spoken to me visually the way this diamond has though.

So what I''m gathering is it''s not the Most Perfect marquise, but it''s a very good one. It''s beautiful and fits perfectly in to my FMIL''s budget. She is no diamond snob and will not care what its ASET looks like. And, as beautiful as those two other WF marquise are, they both seem to have a bow tie effect, and I don''t like that. Is finding a fancy shape a trade-off in likes and dislikes? Sure, the JA diamond is lacking a little red, but it''s also has minimal bow tie. And the WF diamonds have more red but have obvious bow tie effects to me. When there is no H&A and no ACA for a shape that has low demand can you expect to always find the "ideal" diamond? Or for that matter, even know what is ideal for that type of diamond?

Yes it can be as there is much to consider, overall shape, bow ties, colour, personal taste and light return etc, really all you can do is see as many of the shape you like as possible so you have a good base of comparison and pick the stone that best fits your requirements. The pnly way we could compare how this one looks to the others is to have ASET images for all three, but if you aren't keen on them it there is no point in getting the images really.

You could order it and have a look, JA can send it in a ring holder if your MIL didn't want it set, then if she loves it she can send it back for mounting but the return policy covers mounted stones I believe if she wanted to go ahead and have it set.

Thanks Lorelei! I think we''re going to order it. I went over my concerns with Darin at JA, and he was very helpful and reassuring! I feel very confident that the diamond will be a winner! Thanks again for all your help.
