Hi guys,
I'm so new to the world of diamonds, would appreciate it if you could help me make a decision on the engagement ring.

first one is 4.46 E VVS1
second one is 4.52 D VVS2

what do you think of the proportions and fires?

my plan is to propose next month, please wish me luck, and THANK YOU ALL!

We need a magnified video or photo to evaluate further, but just based on the proportions, the first one has crown and pavilion angles that aren't complementary.

OP, welcome to PS and good luck in advance.

You have decided to get a LGD, are you certain your GF is happy with this?

Just wanting to make sure she too is happy with it, that's all.

Furthering this, I would also want to confirm that the stone isn't too big! My girlfriend felt anything over 1.5ct looked over the top and out of proportion for her hand size.

Exciting times, good luck.

With nothing else to go on, the 4.52 D is going to perform better than the 4.46 E based on numbers, but they never tell the full story.

I tried finding a Loupe360 video of the 4.52 and it isn't registered with them, is there a way for you to get us some macro photos and a high quality video?

The 4.52 looks promising. What is the price?

Could you explain why the 4.46 isn’t complementary?

Thank you so much

You want a crown angle 34–35, and the 4.46 is too steep. You also want a pavilion angle of 40.6-40.9. That stone leans “steep and deep.” Not the best light return.

A quick cheat sheet on ideal angle combinations is the WhiteFlash ACA breakdown. Their “A Cut Above” combos give great light return. I can’t keep all the angles in my head except those two lol

Hope that helps!

0515vision said it!

You want an inverse relationship for the crown and pavilion angles—a high crown with a low pavilion, or vice versa. 41 is too high of a pavilion angle for a 35.7 crown. Here's the result from the HCA (you get 3 free uses).
