Hello again. getting closer on my journey towards a ring for my gf. have a couple questions about how a custom setting is normaly manufactured. here is a rendered picture of the ring I am having made. the jeweler is casting it in three pieces, then welding them together. the questions I have about this is if this is a normal process for making a ring. My second question is if the areas that are welded together will be noticeable once the ring is finished?

here is a link to pictures of the diamond and another rendered image

Hi lladar! My custom ring was just finished a few weeks ago. They made the halo and actual ring seperately and then welded it together. If I didn''t know any better, I would have never known it was made seperately! The finish on my ring is really excellent so to answer your questions: 1) Yes I think this is a normal process to make parts of the ring seperately (I think it has to do with the CAD technology if your jeweler uses that and also to be able to provide a nice finish on the ring) and 2) on a well made ring, you shouldn''t be able to tell that parts are welded together. The ring should look fluid. HTH

3 pieces is the only way to make that ring and finish it properly
That they aren''t trying to do it as one piece is good news.
Is it going to be plat or white gold?

the material will be Platinum.

kewl
awesome ring.
Do they have a laser welder?

My ring was also made in pieces and then soldered together. I have no complaints with the way it looks at all. I don''t really know enough about the process to tell you why exactly it cannot be done in 1 piece, but it sound like casting in pieces and soldering is the right way. Do you have an exact date of completion? Can''t wait to see the next set of pics.
