Has anyone ever used this Ebay seller before? All of his pieces appear to be well represented, but the prices seem a bit high. He has some fabulously cut stones up for auction as well. I am in love with this Malaya Garnet he has posted. Do you think the price is fair? Here''s a link:

Malaya Garnet

I bought a 1ct malaya and a spinel from her before, both were lovely and better than pictured :)

People here have, yes. Me personally no, but from what I hear they are on the up and up. I''m sure there will be a few that will chime in.

All you can do is see if they''ll take an offer from you.

(we really need to get the trusted vendor list updated)

I''m not financially on the market for a $500+ gemstone right now, but this Malaya really jumped at me. I really want something to set into a Sally ring setting. This stone is a bit large for me at 9.5mm. Everything else about it makes me swoon! My ring finger on my right hand is a size 3.25. . .I would definitely get some serious finger coverage with a stone this size! Haha.

It is my understanding that Malaya garnets have a higher RI than most other garnet species, correct? I really enjoy the little rainbows of colour that higher RI stones offer.
I''m really looking for a (roughly) pad-like colour in a stone, but with a medium saturation, not light. I don''t mind heating in a stone. Would pink zircon be worth looking at? It may be too soft for a ring though that would be worn about 4 days a week.

Do you think that a garnet this colour would be hard to come by through one of the trusted gem cutters here? I really love everything about this stone, but need something a bit smaller. . .around 7 mm.
Thanks!!!

I''d check with Gene at Precision Gem. His Malayas are beautiful. Link That weblorn stone you found is stunning.

Barry at acstones also frequently has malayas. Link

I bought my Malaya garnet from Gene and it is similar in color to the stone you like.

Talk to Gene before you buy a Malaya elsewhere, you can never ever go wrong with Gene.

I have found her descriptions fair and pricing acurate, but I haven''t bought anything that expensive from her. She also has a website (www.gemnut.com ).

By the way, she also has a darling little pad up. Unfortunately, it is a trillion.

As others have said, I've heard good things about weblorn but have never bought from them. If the stone is too large for you, any thoughts on turning it in to a pendant? I'm sure Sally could do something gorgeous with it.

ETA: Have you seen this one from Weblorn? It's a bit lighter in tone, but it's a Malaya that's only 7.2mm in diameter.

I was admiring that one as well. Amazing dispersion!

I have not had any dealings with this vendor but at one point, Barry at ACS cut quite a few Malaia Garnets. If I’m not mistaken, I saw Gene of Precision Gems with quite a few rough pieces left but that was many weeks ago.

That looks like a peachy diamond!

I''ve never purchased from this vendor. Her stones sure look nice, but the price are certainly higher than ACS or PrecisionGem, two of the most recognized cutters on this forum. If the game is to always submit offers, then I don''t understand the high listing price. After all it is eBay.

I have bought Malaya garnets from both Barry (ACS) and Gene (PG), including this 3.26ct emerald cut. I paid under $500 for it.

From my personal experience, Malaya garnet can come in various shades and react to lights quite differently. Most of them are color shifters. Make sure you found out what color do you prefer before making any purchase.
