I think that this is an incredible achievement for your state and your country. I am very happy to see some gains for equal rights.


But, I am juvenile, as witnessed on the vulgar thread. This:

I guess the difference with the Maine situation is that gay marriage is now legal here because the populace has voted to make it legal, as opposed to the populace upholding legislation (as was done in Maryland and I believe Washington). In 2009, our then governor signed a bill legalizing same sex marriage but then it was overturned through referendum. This year, it was voted in as a straight question, not as approval/disapproval of a bill passed in the legislature.

It's a subtle difference, but enough of one to make we Mainers who supported it all along run around saying We're first! We're first!

Made me giggle.

It's about time! I'm thrilled and proud of the people in the states that made this happen, and at the same time still disappointed in California over Prop 8.

So proud of WA state (now in good company with a handful of others) for voting down hatred and bigotry! The tide is most definitely turning, and I'm feeling utterly optimistic about the future we're creating for our children. There are still so many important issues left to tackle, but I believe in a million tiny steps for progress, and we're chug-chug-chugging away on the right path!

Not only that, but here in WA we can all get baked now too!

I came here to post about Washington but Erica beat me to it! Thanks Erica!

This is really an amazing thing we are doing here. Equality and compassion for people that are different. It's gonna be a hard time coming from the people that contest this, even with the approval, but it's going to be so so great. I've been fighting for this for a while and I'm just so happy. So many of my friends deserve the love and feeling of being connected to someone just like my husband and I do. Yay Washington!!!

Oh and yes! Erica! We can get baked!! Dude.....
