I got this 6.04 ct cushion today (G, VVS2), and I feel like it's cut badly, or maybe I don't like the crushed ice look. I have liked every other stone I've picked online, so I am kinda bummed about this one because it's everything I wanted in size, specs, and price. I'm about 95% convinced to return it.

Thoughts? Is it supposed to look like this?

I don't like the crushed ice look either. At least not as the main focus. I’m terrible with cushions but I suspect you want an 8 main Cushion brilliant. Or a modified cushion brilliant.

I love the size of it! That part is a winner

If you don't like it, then that says it all...send it back and sally forth: 1000s and 1000s of other diamonds out there to pick from!

I have another cushion that I love, and I don't think this one looks as good as that one. That's why I was wondering if it's a bad cut, or just a different cutting pattern that I don't enjoy.

I know you're right. Finding cushions is a lot harder than rounds though, and I hate returns. I'm giving it until Monday, but I am leaning heavily to returning it.

Wow! It's massive. The photos don't show dead spots, and it's pretty evenly sparkly throughout - as crushed ice cushions go, I think it's a good one, although I'm no crushed ice expert. :) It probably sparkles like mad in the right lighting.

But the lack of patterning - the chaos in the pattern - would not be for me, nor the tiny virtual facets. I think that's a matter of taste; I prefer to see blobs and shapes in the sparkle, not tiny scintillation, but others certainly feel differently. Could that be it? This is perhaps the most random-patterned crushed ice stone I've seen, with no structure whatsoever to the sparkle. It's like static on the TV. It objectively seems to have nice light return, but the pattern is very far to one side of the scale from crushed ice to, e.g., antique cushion.

I’m the opposite. I love chunky old cut facet patterns and am actually NOT a fan at all of hearts and arrows. But I’m also a sucker for a really glitzy crushed ice cushion. I would love this! I’ve got a pair with just this look which are possibly my favourite diamond side stones.

At the end of the day it’s all a matter of personal choice. As crushed ice cushions go this looks like a cracker - even all over and very lively.

Edited to add: I do think however that the tint comes through more with this cut. I wouldn’t usually notice tint in a G but I can see it in this. I love lower coloured diamonds in everything EXCEPT crushed ice stones where I personally would need it to be really white.

Actually this looks good, usually I feel like there’s usually dead spots on these around the edges and this has edge to edge sparkle and it’s very even. For crushed ice I would say this is a winner based on these photos (compared to a lot of duds out there). BUT!! You have to love crushed ice and the glittery look.

You're right about it sparkling like mad in the perfect light. We were at a restaurant last night, and it was a different ring! Hubby was asking what my problem was! However, I'm home 90% of the time, so I need something that'll wow me here.

I don't see any tint at all except in that last picture under my kitchen cabinet lighting (and my kitchen is the worst for capturing the right color). Do you see tint in the other pictures? I'm wondering if I just don't see it, or maybe I'm not sensitive to it.

Thank you! I am happy to know it's meant to look like this. I was scared poor cuts were getting through Ritani. I guess I'm just not a big fan. It's nice, but I don't love it (except in restaurant lighting apparently, lol, but that's not enough to justify keeping it). It was a crazy good deal too for only $5500. Bittersweet returning it.

That looks like a really nice crushed ice stone with min dead zones its a 98+ but crushed ice is not for everyone and a big part of that is putting up with so-so to enjoy the wow in the right lighting. They are one trick ponies vs a RB which tries to do everything.

The long light paths of a crushed ice stone makes color more apparent that is why they are used for colored diamonds.
The more stone the light travels through the more color it picks up.
When they are not sparklin they show the color adding a nice trick to the game.

It totally looks like amazing crushed ice! I happen to love it!

After hearing it's actually cut well and seeing it in restaurant lighting last night, I'm now 50/50 on keeping it or returning it. On one hand, it'd be a nice piece for my collection, but on the other hand, I may enjoy a brilliant cut stone better. It's so hard to decide!

I do think it’s a really great crushed ice cushion. I didn’t mean to poo poo it. Maybe it’s not what you expected but what you have come to love. What is the return period? I actually haven’t checked with all the stones I have bought recently from ritani

Oh, no, I didn't think you were poo pooing it ! If anything, I started the whole thread off by being negative about it. I have 30 days to return/exchange it. I'm hoping to decide by next week, though, cause I never like to push return windows to the limit.

Not to be a devil's advocate for excessive sparkles (oops, yes I am), but could you could keep this and add a lab cut of your daytime choice for day? Especially if it is a night sparkler. I have a few rings for this reason. Nighttime is my old cut's territory, and my cushion holds its own then too. Daytime is round cut and scissor emerald cut.

That’s a good idea.

I love sapphires but they are notoriously moody depending on light. I definitely have day sapphires and night sapphires.

These are exactly my thoughts. It's not my main ring, and I am debating keeping it in my collection due to it being so different from anything I have. I alternate every day wearing a different one cause I like variety (and so thankful for lab diamonds making that something affordable to do).

However, I know it's not going to be a top 3 for me, and I promised myself I wouldn't buy another one that wouldn't break into the top 3 favorite rings (if that makes sense)!

It makes perfect sense! I get this. Actually my new year's resolution revolves around thinning the collection.
