I think what you will find is that the luceres are not cut consistent enough (maybe it was just the batch I saw in person??). Some Luceres are awesome and some are duds. Nice looking stone though. If you really want consistency in the cut try the Tiffany Lucida which after evaluating a whole bunch of those stones, I know they are super well controlled for their consistency in cut. The Jubilee also should be cut pretty consistent (I am assuming - Jonathon at GOG would know better) and likely cheaper than the Lucere and Lucida.

just b/c a stone is branded...doesn't mean it will be a great performer...well, maybe except for rounds, it's really hard to predict with square cut stones. I think that is pretty poor...most half way decent princess cuts look better than that...get another lucere or go to a jubilee...it will cost about the same I bet and beat the pants off of it...

Common? No idea... but it can get better

For Luceres? Not sure. But I've seen some Lucidas that were dogs. Yellow and dull. And that was in the store!

I think the Lucere cut is great though if you find one that has maybe:

White Light: Med-High
Colored Light: High-VH
Scinttillation: High-VH

If you move all three of that stones levels up a bit (not even all the way to the end) it should be great.

Lucidas that were dogs? Hmmm.. I am not sure what you consider a “dog”. I have had the luxury to evaluate first hand more than 30 lucidas and since my “good friend” works for Tiffanys at their lab, I know they don’t accept diamonds that are not great visual performers. They obviously can not compete with a round brilliant. As far as Yellow – Tiffany only sells I color or better and they are VERY Strict with the grading. No borderline colors. I suspect that you are just bashing on Tiffanys. Personally I would look at the Jubilee or Lucida again because of the consistency with their cuts.

THIS past therad was the refference for my claim.

I don't think either Lucida or Lucere are cut to show consistent results on any particular light return test (such as the Bscope) - although both brands observe some consistency of cut. It would take allot worse than either these tested Lucere diamonds to actually get a disspointing visual impression...

As far as I know, Tiffany does not sell diamonds under I color and Vs2 clarity... but then... these may mean little if the distiction between F and D means something for you.

Anyway, the Lucere makes a terrific compromise between the contrast of a step cut and the light return of a brilliant - this is what the cut was intended for I think and the stats extracted by the GemAdviser agree.

I think to many of us "I" color is yellow...

I just don't believe that a brand guarantees anything!

Few things are guaranteed in life. But you can at least get some assurance that the cuts are decent and certainly is better than just taking your chances (especially if you are not informed or do not want to take the time and energy it takes to truly learn what matters in a cut. "I color" to the majority of people faces up very white especially when just looking at that stone on a hand.

Interestingly, the "I" colored stones I've seen that are in yellow gold appear much more yellow, while those in white gold and platinum appear much more white. I think it also depends on the grader (GIA, IGI, etc.) and whether it's a borderline color. Personally, I don't think that T&C would DARE sell a stone that faced up yellow b/c it would not look good for their company. While I do think their markup is absolutely ridiculous (I purchased a 3.22 ct princess and somewhat custom platinum setting for about $20000 while a 3.22 ct Lucida with the SAME color and clarity was over $90000). But this is not the topic of this thread, huh? Sorry, thgood! In your case I would look for a Lucere that performs better.

Good luck with your search!
