@elizat put this great CvB piece up for sale and I couldn’t say no. It’s lovely. It’s an ungrateful sapphire with a OEC halo cut by Yorum. The lovely weight of the high karat gold and platinum is so luxurious. she is second hand but this is my first CvB piece. Lovely craftsmanship.

Thanks for offering such a lovely piece!

Yes, more pictures! It's beautiful - congratulations!

Thank you, everyone. Obviously this ring shall be named The Ungrateful! It seems like that’s the only name it could be.

@yssie No band for now because the ring is too big for my index finger, which is the finger my bands are sized too. I’m wearing it on my middle finger for now. I have some of those silicone ring grippers coming today so I can put it on my ring finger and see which finger I want to size it to. Once it’s sized, maybe a band but it would need to be curved, I think, to not scratch the teeny tiny prongs on the halo.

Here are a few more photos. The detailed work on the band is pretty impressive. It’s a pretty classic orange blossom pattern but executed to a very high standard. There are 70 prongs in total o_O all of which are tiny but agin, executed extremely finely. There is miligrain around the sapphire too.

As a rule, I think, antique reproductions are hard to get right. The metal work may be spot on, but the precision cut modern round belies it being a reproduction. Or the stone is the right cut but the metal work is clearly modern cast work. But this one hits ticks all the boxes. The mix of yellow and white metal is peroid correct, the orange blossoms are correct and were popular in the Edwardian period, there is no air gap which is right, and the sapphire isn’t precision cut, which is how it would have been in period. I myself have several antique cuts set in modern settings, but as I rule, I don’t try to design antique style rings.

The original commission and Cassie really nailed this one.

Such a beautiful piece! The level of detail is immaculate!

In some other thread a year from now you’re going to post a pic and call her The Ungrateful (caps critical!) and anyone who hasn’t seen this thread is going to wander what the super juicy story behind it is… You’ve got at least a few months to cook something up
