So, a few years ago I lost a 1/2 carat diamond stud earring- I had no idea where it went. Playing with a new ipod it popped out of my ear and vanished. I thought I lost it during a commute, or in the office. I scoured the office, but nothing could be found

We took the remaining diamond in the earring and added it to a diamond pendant. This was two years ago. Today, getting ready for a move, I find the lost stud buried deep under a desk buried in office carpet where I would have never looked. In spite of cleaning services and a spotless office, it popped up buried deep under a printer. The pair is re-united. Oh say my colleagues, you now have a set-- BUT, I took the original stud and added it to a pendant, and now have the other one back, so what to do? Suggestions?

This photo is how I had the lone stud diamond set into a pendant

here is the other half... what do I do with it now?

Your suggestions appreciated. I do appreciate the karma of this situation, glad the stone returned to me, but what to do?

WOW! I can't believe you found it! Can you have it removed without damaging the remainder of the necklace? If so, I would go that route and wear them as earrings again.

If not, I would probably mount your found treasure in a bezeled halo RHR. It's .5 carats, right? That's a great size for a RHR! There's a pretty mounting from LOGR that's a bezel halo with a split shank. I'll see if I can find it.

OK, I couldn't find the one I was thinking of but what about one of these...

Do you have other studs?

I cannot believe I found it either. My husband was so mad that I lost it. I know it was crazy weird, there I was in a cleaning frenzy, moving offices, and decided to clean up UNDER the desk to not embarrass myself with all the crumbs, and what pops up but the lost earring, buried so far back I would never had looked had not the desk been moved at that point. A high point in my day for sure! I don''t know what to do, I would love to have the original studs reset, but my husband worked so hard to have remaining stud set into the pendant. He now says, well let''s just add on the other diamond to the pendant,so that''s an option too. Don''t know how aesthetically pleasing it is, but at least the two are together again.

Wow - what a totally bizarre coincidence!

I''d probably go the route of finding it a new mate and making a new pair of studs

- you''ll have a great story to tell anyone who compliments them!

What a lovely moment of happy chance that you found it!

Also, I second Yssie - get a new half-carat stone and you''ll have a wonderful set!

You could do new studs, a right hand ring or another pendant (solitaire). So many options. I love happy endings!!!

good for you!!!! I''m jealous! I wish I could find my wedding ring!

I vote for a new diamond partner and a new set of earrings getting made!

Motownmama, sending you good vibes to help find your ring. Good luck.

Wow! I''m so glad you found your diamond! Maybe you could get another to match for diamond stud earrings.

Wow, congrats on finding your long lost earring!

1) Replace the stone in the pendant with a colored stone, and get matching earrings again.

2) Find another diamond to make a pair again.

3) Get another hole pierced in your ear (or somewhere else, if you''re brave) to use it as a single stud.

4) Make another pendant out of it, and give it to a beloved SO.

"Reunited and Feels so Good" (please tell me you are old enough to recognize that!)

This is so exciting! I am giddy for you!

I would go back to studs...

or add it to the necklace on the other side for balance...to remind you what a cool karma kind of "journey" it has been...balanced karma kind of thing.

Or that new bangle that a pser is frequently posting. You know just one diamond on a bangle? That is so lovely to me. (forgive me, I can't recall who just now).

Would you have room to wear a single stone pendant above your journey pendant? Or would you have reason to want a simple one stone pendant for occasions?

Gee, you have so many options. 1/2ct is such a great size!!

If you go back with studs, perhaps a screw back my be something to look into? Or at least a jumper cable that connects the pair! Ha. Just kidding.

What ever you choose, know I can't get that tune outta my head...all BECAUSE OF YOUR KARMA!

Wow, so many great suggestions. So glad I posted this.

It''s amazing I found it, I almost didn''t, but after the move I decided to go back and do a wipe down- I started dusting off the printer table, looked underneath and decided to sweep up everything, and there lodged very near the wall, way too far back to be touched by routine cleaning was the stud along with pencils, paper clips, thumb tacks and what not that had fallen over the years. I was stunned- that and seeing the first green shoots of bulbs planted in a Manhattan bed outside an office building yesterday. Yes, spring is around the corner, and good things do happen.

Thanks Yssie, Circe, Hudson Hawk. Motownmamma I sure hope you find your wedding ring, Susinoo, Rising Sun, thanks for stopping by, onvacation- another piercing, I actually thought of that but at my age, I just dunno, iluvmyhalo, lulu thanks so much for the suggestions, and Casablanca yes, indeed I am old enough to remember Reunited, but I just got another 70''s tune to stop endlessly looping through my head during a blazing, feverish sinus infection... don''t get me started.

I may have it made into a pendant for my daughter- finding it so unexpectedly must symbolize something good, that I would want her to share in.

You know what Casablanca, that is a great idea. I do know the thread of the diamond on a charm bracelet bangle, set in a bezel, it''s in the jewelry forum, and I have been following it closely. That is a great idea. I''m on a mac and can''t highlight the portion of your comment I am responding too, but the diamond on a bangle is a great idea.

Yeah! Is there a prize?

Just kidding. Thrilled for you even more now!
