HI all,
Long time reader first time poster! What a great resource thanks in advance for everyones input!
My question is largely related to loose diamond setting. I am currently in possession a diamond as follows:
ROUND BRILLIANT
Measurements 7.05 - 7.09 x 4.40 mm
Carat Weight 1.35 carat
Color Grade E
Clarity Grade VS2
Cut Grade Excellent
PROPORTIONS
Depth 62.2 %
Table 56 %
Crown Angle 35.5°
Crown Height 15.5%
Pavilion Angle 40.8°
Pavilion Depth 43.0%
Star Length 50%
Lower Half 75%
Girdle Medium to Slightly Thick, Faceted, 3.5%
Culet None
FINISH
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Excellent
FLUORESCENCE
Fluorescence None
CLARITY CHARACTERISTICS
Clarity Characteristics Crystal, Cloud, Feather, Needle
Inclusion reference chart indicate some small needles near the girdle.
I would like to take this to a reputable jeweller to be made into a setting for an engagement ring; however the jeweller mentions that they have an 'all care no responsibility' policy regarding the setting of diamonds.
When i queried further they mentioned that there is a risk that during the setting process diamonds can cleave or fracture, which is understandable and I have read this also online.
My question is in two parts
1. Should I walk away from the stone given the fact that there are needles (not feathers) in proximity to the girdle.
2. How often does fracturing of the stone as a result of setting actually occur? I understand that the jeweller has to cover their bases regarding liability but what are the realistic expectations? is it worth the risk having a jeweller set a loose diamond such at this?
Wow ended up being a thousand questions
Anyways many thanks in advance for your insight!
