Looking to purchase and need some help

We can't tell anything about the stones you posted with only a lab report. You HAVE to have pictures, period, to even consider a cushion diamond. You can see how different they can look from all the ones we have posted.

Does gog have anything closer to 2 carats etc?

Ideally i want to be as close to 2 carats as possible. VS2 is fine and G/H color with excellent/very good cut.

Do you really want such a rectangular stone to set in a solitaire? I would much rather have a more rounded square cushion to set in a solitaire.

understand that they grade a whole variety of stones from ideal -> poor. I am just surprised to see in the comments field items that are not shown on the diamond sketch/map. Nothing major I just need to see the stone its self.

That is very common when there are a lot of small inclusions. The inclusion plot would be too scary if they put red marks all over it to show inclusions that aren't all that visible to the eye.

So I purchased the diamond from James Allen.

After my research on the company with nothing but good reviews and considering they have a 60 day no hassle return policy. I figure i have nothing to loose. Pictures will not do any diamond any justice and I truely need to see it with my own two eyes to really know.

I am going to bring the diamond to a appraisaer who i found on price scope.

Here is how i look at this situation 1 of 2 ways.

I will spend $65 for Raymond to go over the diamond with me and him tell me it is not what the GIA cert says and is not worth what you paid and return it and get all my money back and try again. OR he will tell me that I really lucked out and found that diamond in the ruff. He has seen it happen before from online sellers.

The worst customer service and buying experience of my life.

I’m writing this to caution anyone thinking about purchasing from Jamesallen.com to think twice. I want to make sure no one else has to go through the same awful experience I had.

I have been trying to find the perfect 2.01 carat diamond stone and found what appeared to be a perfect “diamond in the rough” deal on Jamesallen.com. The website advertised a stone that met all my criteria so I decided to move forward with a purchase. I called and spoke with their sales representative, Stacy Etzler, who confirmed the stone was in stock and available but needed to be shipped from Israel.

We corresponded back and forth via email ending with her promise that the stone was available still and that I just needed to call and complete the order with payment. I happily obliged and paid the full amount on my credit card. I received a confirmation email that the order was completed and the stone was shipping on May 7th. Four days before the stone was supposed to ship, I received a phone call from Josh Cales who identified himself as a manager and gave me the “unfortunate” news that the stone had already been sold, even though I had received numerous confirmation and status update emails from the company letting me know that the order was moving forward without issue.

When I asked him to resolve the issue by giving me a stone of comparable value, he informed me that they couldn’t give me a stone equal in all respects to the one I had ordered without paying at least $10,000 more. He passed the issue on to his manager Jim Schultz who apologized that the stone isn’t available but then stated that the stone I had ordered would have in fact cost more than advertised once it had arrived in New York anyway and that it would have been a higher price than what I ordered it for.

I was dumbfounded as it seemed like the kind of bait and switch tactics that con men used. He went on to say that had the diamond I had ordered actually came in, I would have had to talk to them about the “pricing issue” anyway (basically pay more). I expressed my extreme displeasure over the issue, that it reeked of false advertisement and a bait and switch move and said the best he could do is offer a $1,000 discount on a near identical stone that listed for $10,000 more than the one I had ordered.

I opted for a refund and will never do business with their organization again and hope this letter serves as a warning to anyone thinking about using jamesallen.com.

I have a local jeweler that
Cushion 1.82 G VS2 for $10,000 i do not have the specs as far as cut and symmetry etc. I just know the cut is definitely good- very good - excellent. I am not sure which one etc.

Just an FYI. GIA does not cut grade cushions. Only AGS formally does at this point in time. There is a video program here that you may find helpful.

hotskate, Goodoldgold has a cushion tutorial right now on their home page. I'd suggest taking the time to watch it if you can. I think it will really help you in your search on how to understand numbers, asets etc. Also, do you have a local store where you can go and see some in person? Cushions are just so hard to judge by numbers alone and don't really indicate how they will perform. That is why we usually recommend working with a vendor who has a proven track record of being able to choose and identify beautiful cushions.

In the first picture i was thinking the same thing. The more i keep thinking about it I am leaning more towards sticking with my local wholesaler in Scottsdale.

I felt that way too when I was trying to figure everything out by myself. In all honesty, talking to someone who is a recommended PS jeweler that knows that you will be running the numbers and is usually honest and up front might make you feel a much better. I ended up contacting IDJ, which I am very happy about doing, and have already mentioned them to a couple people I know looking into diamonds. I don't personally have experience with anyone else but others have mentioned GOG, and I would have gone that route if this didn't pan out (which it looks like it will.)

Seeing stones in person, however, does make you feel much better vs. sight unseen - I hear you on that.
