I'm told it's a 4ct gray diamond. Possibly inverted cushion or perhaps it's rose cut. Any idea where I can find this stone? (or can someone help with the build out? please pm me if so)

Do you want this style or this exact ring?

What's your budget?

Yes, I'd like this exact ring if possible. 18k wg or platinum (looks like a gunmetal treatment?). budgeting 8k-ish.

I'm aware it's forsale locally. Given the need to support a retail store front in an expensive part of NYC, they wouldn't be able to do it w/in my budget which is why I'm looking to see if I can do it myself.

The stone you pictures appeared to be brown to my eye, despite being listed as grey. Are you looking for a brownish rose cut or a greyish rose cut.

It doesn't look gray (is gray a real diamond color?). even looks a bit green. something in this ball park would be fine. has some nice translucency. tx

Yes there is a thing as fancy grey diamonds.

OK I'm looking. Would you be willing to have a regular faceted diamond not upside down? Assuming it's the right color?

Does it need to be a diamond? I wonder if you could find a zircon in that color range..

I also think Quartz would be easy for this color range but yes, looking for a diamond here. tx

Why do you want a diamond?
This doesn't appear to be an engagement ring. Also you're planning on getting a rose cut and/or flipping it upside down anyways so the benifits of a diamond for light performance are kind of lost.

If it has to be a diamond it has to be but the color you're after isn't ideal, and all the things people like about diamonds you're kind of working specifically against, so I don't see why you'd need to pay for a diamond just because.

You could get a grey spinel or a greyish sapphire which would be hard enough for everyday wear. Or, frankly, if she doesn't play to wear it daily, you don't need it to be a hard stone (I liked the zircon idea)

Otherwise they will probably just generate the same suggestions all over again.

Hi, I have nothing against rose cuts and in fact, this particular ring might be a rose cut. I was just conversing on a different style during this conversation (completely rough cut ring) so wasn't paying much attention to a "finished" ring.

I actually started to look at sapphires now that you mentioned it (only had one conversation a few weeks ago so it slipped my mind). Also inquired into some Moissanite to see if I can get the size/color as well, but again no luck. I figured at that size (4ct), any diamond would be non-ideal at my price range.

No I meant reviewing the information in marymm's post as some of it is relevant here (you are probably currently looking for a rose cut stone. Some of the vendors she suggested would be good people to contact). Also if you have decided you don't lke their stones -- then people here will get a better idea of what you are looking for if they have that information. I can paste her post below.

diamond crystals - some of them are incredibly beautiful to my eyes albeit in a different, more understated way as compared to faceted diamonds - http://www.johnbetts-fineminerals.com/jhbnyc/diamonds.htm.. And I know at some future undetermined point in time I will have one of Jill Anish's rustic diamond rings on my finger! https://www.etsy.com/shop/JanishJewels?section_id=6993934..

All that said, I wholeheartedly agree with other posters to really be sure your wife would appreciate a rough diamond ring; and like Niel above think perhaps a rose-cut diamond ring would be another alternative to consider. FWW I also like Jill's rose-cut rings [https://www.etsy.com/shop/JanishJewels?section_id=7092525, and I have my eye on several of the loose rose-cut diamonds on Jewels by Grace's website http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/]
