Hello!

I'm looking for a natural unheated topaz.

Could be the one of the following colors:

1) yellow/orange -- highest priority
2) pink/purple
3) green

I'm looking for a size of 2 carats or below. I prefer a round or cushion shape. Not too fond of pears or non-symmetric shapes. I'd like to keep the price below $1,000 or so.

Hope to put in a ring. So, mounted or unmounted is okay. Any color gold is okay too.

Thanks!

Oooo! I'm checking AJS Gems now. Thank you!

Trying to keep the stone price below $1,000. I don't have a ballpark figure for a setting yet. Probably keep setting under $600.

Ok. No problem at all :)

This is the only other vendor I remember seeing nice topaz at other than Pala (not really what you're looking for though): http://litnon.com/index.php?page=view&cat=56

I'd ask Brad at The Gem Trader -- he sometimes has interesting stuff to offer.

At the risk of boring everyone and replying endlessly to my own thread, I do have one more question.

Are these topaz stones "real"?

I know they are treated & enhanced, and one gets what one pays for.

However, I could get 3 or 4 different colors and make a cute fun silver ring.

Go to africa gems and search for: swarovski topaz

or you can click on the link and see the green topaz:

The Ruby Lane ring is lovely even though the cut leaves a lot to be desired. If you are interested, I'd ask about how the age was determined. It may be English in which case the hallmarks will determine the age, but what's going on with the stone in the second to last photo with all those wiggly lines?

As to the Africa Gems... Swarovski make crystal gems and beads used a lot in craft work and the description states-
Passion Topaz gemstones have been enhanced using a standard treatment called "vacuum deposition" where a coating of titanium is applied to the pavilion of the gem through the use of electricity.

Topaz is a real gemstone that is mined from the earth. I don't think there are any synthetics but yes, most natural topaz are treated.

Clear Cut Gems has a yellow/gold topaz listed as untreated - looks lovely from the pic - http://www.clearcutgems.com/topaz.html - he has a 15% restocking fee though - if untreated is a priority, maybe check with him re: purchase conditioned on obtaining an AGL gem brief reflecting no treatment (and full refund if it shows as treated)?

This stone has been mentioned here before, aside from color it doesn't meet your criteria at all, but it's stunning.

Greg,
That topaz is indeed stunning. I usually dislike most imperial colours and overly elongated shapes but this particular topaz is makes mockery of my dislike.

Interesting! Looking forward to more pics.

Here are some pics of the one I have. I've read that such stones look best under incandescent light. But I disagree... I think it looks best with natural light.
