Hi Everyone,

I discovered Pricescope shortly after I spend $6,000+ on a 1.92 G oval from Yadav. I'm one of those lucky people who bought right before prices began to fall :-) I don't truly love this stone, or the setting, and I've spent the last few years following along on all of your journeys and posts while thinking about what I would like to have instead.

I'm finally ready to buy something new - hoping it will be the final one. I've looked and looked, and have decided that I have ridiculously expensive taste. What I would choose if money was not object would be a 3-4 carat OEC or roundish OMC from around 1920-1930. I love the pillowy facets.

Here are some of my recent favorites:

I've finally decided that spending $80,000 is not going to happen, and am considering purchasing an OEC or OMC LG to recreate one of these styles.

Over the weekend I fell madly in love with a 3 carat OMC at Alex Park, but no sooner did I decide I had to have it, then it sold.

I've since found three OEC to consider, and would be so thrilled if one of you experts would weigh in on the topic in general, or on the two stones. I'll post links when someone is online to see :-)

I really appreciate all of your expertise, and how kind and welcoming this forum is.

You are in the right track with Park. He has the most authentic antique style cuts we’ve seen. I think Sin City Finds has a great cutter for OMCs as well.

My observation is most antique style lab stones are not cut welll. They are neither authentic looking nor optically ideal. So I would suggest identifying the best producers of authentic antique style cuts (peruse threads here to find them) and then getting in line or commissioning a stone.

Thank you! I've reread all of the threads here until I think my head started spinning.

Right now I have two stones of Alex's I've been looking at, and then I found one at Ritani today. I, of course, love August Vintage, but I think I'd like to keep my budget a little lower.

Alex is a delight to work with. If you get a stone from him his settings are very reasonable too.

I don't love August Vintage stones.. lol something about them being too perfect.

That makes sense!

Would it be crazy to have the stone shipped and sent back to him to do a setting? Or do I just assume I am going to love it and have it all done and shipped?

It makes sense to see it before setting. Lots of people do what you describe — see it then ship it back. Others just go for the whole enchilada. Depends on your comfort level.

I would get it set before shipping it. Just make sure you ask for as many videos etc as you need to feel comfortable. Shipping stones back and forth is a financial drainer. And having it set locally is $$$$ too.

Anyone who knows more than I do able to take a quick look at a stone before I buy it?

Post it and we can take a look! Lol I can't guarantee I know more than anyone else though hahaha

Save your video to your device then upload to imgur or YouTube.

Can’t tell much about the cut because the stone is static in this video. It looks decently cut. This is a very common style of antique replica cuts. It isn’t my favourite because it doesn’t look super authentic— something about the faceting under the table is too perfect and the proportions overall are atypical. I’ve seen more authentic looking cuts. But it probably performs well optically.
