Hi, I am currently looking for an engagement ring for my girlfriend. She mentioned in passing a year ago or so that since she''s in a profession where she is always wearing disposable medical gloves, she would prefer a ring that has a low profile (many prong settings would snag and tear the gloves). I had considered bezel settings and half bezel settings but I really want to find something unique. I know she doesn''t like rings that are "too busy". I had come across this "carved branch" ring and I had never seen one like it before. I''d really appreciate some honest opinions of this type of setting! The diamond doesn''t stick up like it does for regular prong settings. Pictures of the ring can be found at http://www.krikawa.com/rings/engagement-rings/sculptural-unique-engagement-rings.htm

Thanks!

Mark

Honestly, the carved branch ring looks quite masculine to me. I MUCH MUCH prefer the carved curls! That is a gorgeous ring design.

Especially this version of the carved curls. So pretty!:

Wow! I love it! It''s trully unique, and haven''t seen anything like it before, and I was looking for something like it. I since changed the design of my setting. I like the carved wing too! Maybe even more... :)

For easy reference, this is the ring the OP is referring to:

I think these are gorgeous rings but they are a particular taste and quite busy in my opinion.

If she doesn''t like fussy, go with something plain and simple and in a semi-bezel if prongs are an issue.

OK I have to say it. I see two big lobster claws. Sorry! I might be the only one though...

On the other hand, when I first went to the webpage I thought you meant the carved curls one, and I really like that one!

i agree! i would prefer a plain semi/full bezel. it will sit low and look elegant!!

Thanks for the advice! I do like the carved curls but it may also be too busy. It can be tricky to buy a ring that she will like that will also be a surprise. Now that I''m leaning toward bezel settings I really do like the one by Sholdt, discussed and shown in this thread:

The sholdt bezel is beautiful

I think clean simple lines that allow for a diamond to take center stage are always a winner :D

Now THAT is a good idea! The sholdt bezel is gorgeous without being fussy. Do it!!!!

I vote for that one - it''s a very sleek and gorgeous setting. If you want a full bezel, I also love this setting from Sholdt in wg or plat.
