Hello, I'm a first time poster that has been reading these forums for the past few months to research how to find the right engagement ring for my girlfriend. I hope you guys can help steer me in the right direction!

I'm looking to spend around $6-8k on a round diamond placed in this platinum solitaire setting: http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/contemporary-tiffany-style-solitaire-engagement-ring-1415.htm.. I think like many people out there, my girlfriend initially wanted a Tiffany setting ring, as they are very nice. However, the more and more I started to do my research I just didn't think it was worth it in our current situation (we are looking to buy our first home). Luckily, my girlfriend also agreed and she's placing her trust in me to find the right diamond for her ring.

My only real criteria is that the diamond has that crazy sparkle wherever it goes. From reading the forums, I know that cut, color, then clarity is the way to go. My search has led me to this 1.186ct J VS2 ACA from WF: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2972952.htm#..

What are your thoughts on this diamond? My only concern is that the J color may be too low, but it's hard for me to tell just based on the pictures and not in person. Are there any other diamonds that I should be considering to get the bang for my buck?

I would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thank you in advance!

You can't go wrong with an ACA.

I have a J colored emerald cut, and it faces up nice and white, but from the side and in direct sunlight I can see a slight tint, but it isn't marked - it's subtle, and just gives it a little "character", but it's by no means yellow. I had an L color for a while, and it was too tinted. But I also have a few G's and a D, and I like the J just as much as the others.

I love it - go for it! Lower colored stones are a great deal, and "J" is not too low, I think. The slight warmth in your J will be very hard to detect in a solitaire setting, where it cannot be compared to higher stone colors. That being said, you might want to think about what the wedding band will look like.

I just purchased a 0.8 carat A Cut Above diamond from WF and it is very pretty and I am pleased with it! So sparkly! I got a K colored stone because I am also on a budget, and put cut, carat, and eye-clean above color. I can tell that there is a little warmth face up next to white gold, but it is very slight. I do notice a faint yellow when it is face down and I'm looking at it against a white background carefully.

If you still can't decide (it's hard to really know without seeing it in person), WF has a good return policy. You can purchase the stone, analyze it, and if you don't like it, ship it back. Shipping registered mail, insured is only $30-$50 and WF will send you special instructions.

Are there any other diamonds that I should be considering to get the bang for my buck?
I'm happy with WF. I've heard good things about James Allen and Brian Gavin Diamonds.

The ACA is lovely! Have you and your FF had a chance to view stones graded by GIA/AGS for color? I have a J stone and only detect color from the side in certain lighting environments. That said, everyone has their own personal tolerances for color, and the only way to truly determine if a specific color grade is satisfactory to YOU is to view it yourself in many different lighting environments. WF has a great return policy so I would feel comfortable suggesting that you order the stone and evaluate it yourself.

Thanks for all of your input! I'm going to purchase the diamond and check it out myself in person, but I have a feeling I won't be disappointed.
