Hi everyone — I purchased a cushion cut online and it just arrived today! I wanted to get some feedback on the light return. It looks very sparkly to my untrained eye, but I was hoping for some thoughts from experts since cushion cuts are so funky and difficult to assess according to what I’ve read here.

Here is the GIA report:https://www.gia.edu/report-check?reportno=6342395695&s=1580942945819#

I also took some videos in different light conditions: (1) inside next to a window. (2) outside in direct sunlight and (3) under LED lights in my kitchen:
Any and all thoughts welcome! I have 30 days to return from yesterday. Thank you so much in advance!

I am a novice/newbie, it has beautiful sparkle and presence. As to the dimensions, I can't comment because I am not trained to make that evaluation.

I think you can do better. It appears that it is a very "spready" stone: Large table and shallow crown. Hence, there will be less fire. Also, I'm not sure about the distribution of its scintillation. There seems to be dead zones.

Thank you for your response! I was trying to maximize "spread" here to maximize finger coverage. Do you think I went too far? Does it perform particularly poorly for a "spready" stone? Can you tell me a little more about the dead zones you see? Just want to make sure I'm looking for the right characteristics! Thank you again!

You don't necessarily have to avoid "spready" stones, but you may have less fire. I just felt like there could be more sparkle. Also, there were some places where I didn't see any "movement"... those are what I was referring to. Like any scintillation or flashes were not consistent throughout, that there were areas I didn't see anything. WITH THAT SAID, please keep in mind that I am not seeing it in person. And it is not easy to capture on video because you get obstruction. So you need to make the call of how it is for YOU. I apologize if I am confusing you further. It is very difficult to "evaluate" over the internet. However, those were my initial impressions off the top. But, I could be completely wrong and I would love if others would jump in here and give their impressions. Keep in mind that @Ceilimom gave an initial impression and it was totally opposite of mine. I would love if others could comment. I could be totally wrong so I want others to give their impression.

I tend to like these flat bright stones. [Looking for a nicer one, just to have done it!]

Thanks again! I hope others respond / provide impressions as well. I think it's beautiful and very sparkly but I've only seen a handful of cushions in real life, mostly in jewelry stores with jewelry store lighting, many of which were "crushed ice" which I knew I didn't like, so my experience with the cut is is limited. Good to know that the lack of fire I am noticing as compared to my mother's round brilliant is due to the spread I was looking for. All of the other women in my family (and most of the women in my social circle) have RBs so that's what I am most used to seeing. Any and all other thoughts welcome!

Thanks for responding! I really like how white it looks and how it appears to "glow" at times.

My feelings exactly.@ Headlights makes some valid observations. For some reason, in person some diamonds speak to you and if it makes you happy, then that's what counts. Some of the vintage cushions that are sold by antique dealers have some upside down dimensions and alot under the hood so to speak( plot ),but they are sought-after. Not sure if that helps at all.

Thank you! Very helpful. I may just be getting into my head because I see a lot of feedback on these boards on others' choices. I'm open to exchanging as this is my first go at it and my partner and I are not in any rush so I'm very open to opinions / feedback / advice. It's always nice to hear that people are seeing what I'm seeing, though!

Diamonds have many looks, but to me this is one to remember. It is certainly an exaggeration - tooo much brighteness, tooooooo little brilliance/play of light ['fire'/dispersion' should work in both cases, some cuts bring it up, with some loss of brighteness; I want the letter to the point the stones look like mirror shards, dispersion is something to go into shade to see]. This is not a common choice, so I'd say it would be good to see some diamonds that do brilliance well. Even a less bright flat one, with a small table would do this [I rememebr one of tro 50/50 ovals - 50%depth, 50%table - the crowns might remember bead faceting at that point - the table is larger than the next largets facet, but not by too much!]

I do remember one or two very spready cushions that have more typical brilliance patterns - cushions with open culets. WWW

Sum of ramble: there is always more to see
