To begin, I can''t begin to say how helpful this forum has been so far in my maiden diamond adventure. I am preparing to propose to my GF and after reading post after post and doing as much personal research into her tastes as possible, I have narrowed down my focus to a Round Brilliant in a white gold semi bezel setting with a medium to wide band. The only issue I am having is finding a custom jeweler that can bring my ideas to life. I found a photo of a setting on tradeshop.com (attached) that comes close to what I have in mind but to be honest, am not crazy about working on designs via email alone. In addition, I have read a good amount of negative feedback on these boards about them that make me worry. Can anyone suggest some alternative jewelers(if they are in the NYC area, that would be an added bonus)? Thanks!!!

Grunberger Jewelers in Stamford, Connecticut is worth the small trip from New York City. They are very reputable and Rupert is an incomparable craftsman. I own many pieces of jewlery made by him, many which have been pictured here on Pricescope. He can execute anything and Mona will work with you to be sure that your plans are going to work out to be the piece of jewelry that you are hoping for. (Sometimes what one draws will not turn out to be what he is imagining once it is executed; a professional-like Mona-will help you to see possible problems before they occur.)

Good luck!

PS-I bought the diamond that is now in my solitaire from the Tradeshop and I am very happy with it. Rupert made the setting for the diamond and its jackets.

Deborah, thank you for the info! I am going to check out their site now.

Grunberger Jewelers does not have a large website, but one can get their telephone number from it and call to arrange an appointment. An appointment is certainly not necessary, but if you want to be sure that Mona, Jim, and Rupert are all free it might be a good idea to let them know you are coming (and traveling to get there, too). Please feel free to use my name. Jim will be good to you if he knows you didn''t just drop in from next door. (Not that he''s not nice to his neighbors!)

This is a photo of a diamond pendant in a half-bezel setting that belongs to me. Rupert also made this. It is black and white because I got a little creative in my photo taking and took it against an orange. It looked odd in color ;-).

Tori,

You wrong me if you think I would forget you are Tali on Pricescope! What I have not known is how to e-mail you, because I did not know if you were in New Zealand! My e-mail address is still the same and I would love to hear what you are up to! That bezel is not new. So I thank you for the compliment on it, but I was just showing it as an example of Rupert''s work. Oldtimers like you have probably seen this posted before. (Not that I expect you to remember a necklace posted years ago!)

I''m glad to see you here!
