I just purchased a diamond from Good Old Gold with the following specs:
CARAT: 1.31 CT
COLOR: J
CLARITY: SI1
CUT: GIA Excellent (Hearts and Arrows)
GIA H&A Inscription
DEPTH: 62.56%
TABLE: 54.33%
CROWN ANGLE: 34.56
PAVILLION ANGLE: 40.65
HCA Score: 1.2
$6424.00

I plan on purchasing the Excel Tiffany Inspired 6 Prong setting

I need to find a credible jeweler in the San Jose Bay Area of California that can mount my diamond. I am mostly concerned with the jeweler damaging the diamond during the mounting. I am going to get insurance through jewelers mutual before I have the diamond mounted.

I bought my rings from Joe Escobar in Campbell. They were solid people, I would trust them with my rings and yours

. Though they are probably not the cheapest option out there.

Oh, wait, I just read this again and you will be purchasing neither the ring nor stone from them. Is there any way that you can send the ring to GOG for mounting? Or even send the stone to Excel? Either way, at least you have someone with a little skin in the game setting your stone.

Well, I guess if you will have it insured on your own and have your reasons then I would still 'trust' Joe Escobar for the mounting, if they will do it. Probably best to call and ask. I'd not make a big deal about where you go the ring/stone from, no need to bring up internet purchasing.

It would be more costly on the return shipping from either GOG or Excel because of the insurance that has to be added on. I know that Excel won''t insure any damage done if they mount it and require you to have insurance.

I guess the other option is send it back to GOG and I know they would definitely work with me if they chipped the diamond. I don''t have a problem doing either but I figure insured shipping out and insured shipping back on an appraised ring of $9000 will be pretty costly alone.

I spoke with Mya at Escobar today and she told me that their most experienced jeweler has been at it for over 35 years so that is not bad assuming he is the one that mounts my ring.

Like I said, they are good jewelers over there and I would feel comfortable with them. Especially if you have your own insurance.
