I am ready to pop the question, but am looking for a ring and was hoping I could maybe get some assistance from the forum.

I am looking for about a 1 Ct. Round Brilliant ring. Total cost around 5k for the rock and setting.

I am willing to sacrifice color a little, but want it to be eye-clean.

Any help out there with links would be appreciated!

Thank you

How about this?

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/5511/ But spread is smaller than a ideal cut 1ct.

Call them up to check if it is eye-clean.
I found this one, too. You get your one carat...so...you lose a little spread. I''d check it out.

Looks cheaper too than ideal cuts of similar spread.

Not ignorant at all!

When we say spread, we mean the face up size of the diamond - for example the spread is appropriate for a 1 carat diamond ( 6.5mm x 6.5mm) etc. When dealing with well cut diamonds it is important to check the diameter but usually with well cut diamonds the diameter falls into place anyway.

Occasionally you may hear of a diamond having a considerably larger spread for the weight, this may sound like a good thing but it can be at the expense of visual beauty and optical performance.

This could be a nicely cut stone as it scores 1.3 on the Holloway Cut Adviser but BlueNile doesn''t offer any photos, though, so it is difficult to assess past the numbers. From the GIA report it looks like the inclusion is right in the middle of the stone. Chances are it''s not eye-clean.

Thank you. Any idea how I can do due-diligence on this stone without seeing an idealscope or aset image or anything?

I wouldn't want this one personally, it isn't the best cut and is facing up small - too deep and the angle ranges could be improved on - I would pass unless you are prepared to sacrifice some cut quality and face up size to get a full carat in weight.

And here is a 1.20 Carat J-VS2 Ideal Cut Round Diamond which scores a 1.8 on the HCA....for $4,270. seems too good to be true...any issues you can see?

This one looks promising, ask JA for an Idealscope image and to put it on hold for you if interested.
I did...they said they would put it on hold, until I receive my IS (about 1 business day). about 4 hours later it says "diamond not available".

Do you know if they pull them from the webpage as well when they are just in a hold status? Seems odd, but I might have to look for another rock

It says "Diamond not available" because it is on hold for you. Looks like a promising option.

Looking at the GIA report, it looks like the tiny feather on the edge might reach the girdle. Perhaps someone with greater expertise can comment on whether that qualifies as an open inclusion?

Interesting. Lets say for the sake of argument it DOES reach the girdle...is that a problem? What implications might that have?

VS2 is rarely a problem. Just ask JA to give an honest assessment of the stone. If they are the ones to set it, they should be aware of any problem the stones have and their insurance will cover any damage in the event of it occurring.

I very much doubt a VS2 feather in a diamond of that size would be an issue in any way, check with JA to give you peace of mind but I think you are fine.

BN says it is eyeclean... would you take a chance? How much does a major inclusion in the center of the stone effect its performance?

I would take a stone from JA over BN because the people at JA actually have the stone in their hands. BN only can call their supplier and ask questions. I honestly have never heard any comment from BN other than, "it''s eye clean". I have heard JA and other PS favorite vendors be very specific about how visible an inclusion was. Of course, VS''s are usually pretty safe. The ASET from JA looks pretty good.

I haven''t kept up on your thread so I don''t know what the prices are and that certainly can make a difference is which you are leaning towards.
