Hello All,
35.gif

So the time has finally come for me where I need to transition from being a lurker to a poster (seeker). I am here requesting some rock finding assistance. I have narrowed my search for the perfect stone down to an Asscher with minimum specs of 1.45-1.75, I, VS2. I''ve been checking online inventories and have seen some stones that might work, but can''t really tell by staring at my CPU screen. I think I''m actually starting to go cross-eyed.

I was hoping the great minds/eyes here can help guide me in finding that perfect stone. Below are two stones that I HAVE seen in person and they look nice. However, I wanted to get some opinions from more discerning eyes. Both seemed to look nice, but I didn''t LOVE them.

Any help is appreciated and please let me know how I can help you, help me.

Thanks!

Both are GIA Certed.

Without some pics there really isn''t anything anyone can tell you about them other than the base numbers look good which is less than 5% of the needed info.

I was afraid someone was going to say that. I don''t know if the vendor can provide me with pictures; is that too much to ask of them since I don''t know if they actually take any pictures of them.

Also, you say the specs "look good" and assuming that they also physically look good, do you think the price is fair for diamonds of these specs?

I guess I''m just trying to figure out if the diamonds in the PS diamond-search are comparable or not by looking at just numbers.

Thanks!

Have you seen this one? Link

Also check out the Octavia Asscher.
I bought one and they have RELLY superb light performance.
Here's a thread about my Octavia; pics start at the bottom of pg 3. Link

Here's where you can get them. Link

I'm not a shill for that vendor, I also have bought from and recommend Whiteflash for round ACAs.
I'm just a passionate happy customer who has been a PS member for just shy of 5 years.

Thanks Kenny, your stone is oh-so beautiful! Of course however, it has to be since Karl is a genius! Thanks for the recommendation and links.

I think my SO would like the Octavia, but I definitely know that she loves the Asscher. At the same time, I think a 1.5 carat Octavia would be out of my price range.

Do any of you Asscher pros see any diamonds in the diamond search that stands out? And please don''t think I am trying to get out of actually searching for a stone :0). I have been actively searching, without being able to see the actual stone, it''s difficult for me to tell if a stone is good just by its dimensions.

Thanks!

Dangle, take a second to check out Kenny's pictures comparing his 2.26 asscher to his 1.34 Octavia. It's unbelievable how large the Octavia seems to face up in that size range.

This Octavia may be on hold, but I would definitely ask Jon if it is indeed being held, and if you can afford it, snag it!

I just took a look through GOG's in house Asschers, and had some trouble finding one to suggest to you:

This one is my favourite of what's out there, but more expensive than your other two; http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/5318/

This one could be nice, but it looks like there may be some extra darkness under the table, so I'd have Jon eyeball it for you - http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/6708/

Hi Dangle

Ask the vendor for clear and detailed photos, and an ASET image if possible to begin with.

Thanks Lauren and Lorelei! I''ll see if the jeweler can provide any other images. I wish I could buy the Octavia that was linked to on GOG, but I''m afraid that is out of my price range.

If I''m looking for around a 1.5ct stone, are there certain dimensions/percentages that I should stay within?

Through research, I believe minimum should be G, VS2, polish & symmetry both VG, and cut VG. But I''m still trying to get a grasp on the various angles and ratios. I like the wide windmills, but that''s pretty much all I know.

Are there any stones on the search that would be recommended in the 8-10K price range?

Thanks again for everyone''s help!

Well you can use these guidelines Karl uses to help you,

depth - 70% or less
table 65% or less
crown height 10% or more

Then the rest comes down to images, preferably ASET and clear, detailed photos.

Here are some suggestions of diamonds that might be suitable. If you like any of these, request an ASET image from James Allen.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Asscher-Diamond-1248316.asp this one has very strong blue fluorescence, check with the vendor in case it makes the stone look cloudy ( unusual but best to check).

Thanks so much, Lorelei! I actually like the last 3, and obviously the 2.149ct diamond. The J color concerns me, but maybe the faint fluorescence will help (here''s hoping).

The two other diamonds (1.56 and 1.3) are also nice as far as I can tell so far, so I have requested ASET images for them.

Glad to help!

Discuss the J colour with one of JA's gemologists, they will give you an idea of how it looks. Post the ASET images when you get them, then we can go from there, also ask JA if they can get the crown height for each one too if possible please.

I will post the results when I get them. I did also ask for the crown height as well. Learning here, slowly but surely...

Thanks again!

On the first two stones that I originally posted, the crown and pavilion are 18% and 48%, respectively.

What do you guys think about that. According to the "guidelines" this should be okay, right?

And would it be safe to say that if I wanted more brilliance, then go with a 4-5 step on the pavilion instead of 3 steps?

It looks dark on the right hand side of the stone and the bottom of the table, ask if it always looks that way or if it is just the photo.
