I would lurve a square one with an open culet. A dealer I ran into recommended Rick Shatz of NY. Any other possibilities? Thanks!

Harriet, have you worked with Old World Diamonds previously? For some reason, I thought you had.......

Same people.

I'd also check with Erica of EricaGrace.

No, but thanks for the suggestion.

what size?

Also SingleStone.

And, if you are feeling brave, eBay can be an OK source of antique stones- just go with a reputable vendor with a return policy.

Harriet, I was in Rick Shatz's office about 3 weeks ago - he did have several OMCs on hand.

Also, I do see this as a possible source for you.....https://www.artdecodiamonds.com/products.php?type=4. Can't vouch for it as I've never worked with them, but it's an option.

Check Single Stone for sure. Ari is very pleasant. I know he would be able to find you a fantastic stone.

I purchased mine from Old World. I dealt with Adam. I can''t say enough about them

Ari is quite nice but overpriced IMO.

Hi Harriet,

You can try Peter Suchy in Stamford, CT. He has listings on eBay, so here's an example (and there's more info about his shop, address, etc. in the listing):

http://cgi.ebay.com/Estate-1880-Triple-Old-Mine-Diamond-Earrings_W0QQitemZ370128290465QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item370128290465&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:1205|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318

If you want to find out what he has available, you can send him an e-mail through any of his ebay listings, and depending upon what he has, you can plan a visit to Stamford, which is just a short train ride from the city.

Michael Goldstein, http://www.antiquediamond.com/, at 580 Fifth Ave. He is to-the-trade but you are connected enough to at least talk with them. I agree with the Shatz/OWD recommendation.

One of these days I want to go to the big antique jewelry show in Miami (January I think) which I understand is analogous to antiques the same way Tucson is for color.

Shall we? My friend shows there. I''ll see if she can get us in.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.

I''m back from my 47th street jaunt. Unfortunately, I''ve realised that antique diamonds are too dark for me. I did pick up a pair of new French cuts, and am tempted to go back for more.

That is one of the unfortunate drawbacks to the old cuts. Old mine cuts can lose a lot of light return because of depth, poor symmetry, thick girdles and open culets. However, I am a BIG fan of them, moreso the european and ESPECIALLY transitional cuts, simply because they are captivating in low light conditions. Each one has a unique personality, and the charm of them is just endearing.

I love Harriets projects. They always turn out so beautifully!

Minds_Elf,
I''ll keep an open mind. Btw, I''ve never interacted with you.

Non. Alas, I don''t have the budget for big diamonds such as yours. That''s alright, because my passion lies with coloured gems.

Can''t wait to see these french cuts!
