My dear fiance is ready for jewelry! We're on the hunt for a gold half round wedding band, but didn't realize picking the gold and the dimensions would really be this complicated.

Found out that he likes the half round, but depending on the vendor, a half round band can looking rounder than others. How would we communicate that we want something a bit flatter than other half rounds? Maybe there is no such thing.
Flat wedding bands look just funny on his hand.

Also he has darker olive skin, and we noticed that darker yellows (18K or higher) just look funny on him. Is 14K gold fine, and will it last just as well as 18K and higher?

Show me your gold half round wedding bands, men!

Thanks.

14k gold would be fine for a man's wedding band, particularly in yellow gold. I think he should just go try some on locally. A yellow gold half round is a very classic style so he shouldn't have any problem finding it. I would think comfort fit would be desirable as it makes the inside edges more rounded.

This one comes in 5 and 6mm and is not too rounded but is comfort-fit in 14k:
