Hi everyone,

Looking to get engaged over the next 2 months. I've done some research and read through a lot of threads and figured I'd seek some advice from the nice people on this forum.

For sentimental reasons, I'm looking for a round diamond that's exactly 1.12 carat. My budget is about 6-6.5k and it also has to be XXX, meaning I'm likely to be constrained in many of the other criteria. I'm comfortable with a G-H color and ideally would like at least a VS2, although a SI1 that is eye clean and not murky would be acceptable. In addition, I was hoping for the diamond to have a HCA score of <2 but I'm finding that quite difficult given my price point and 1.12 carat criterion.

Having said that, I was able to find the following diamonds:

http://www.bluenile.com/ca/diamond-details/LD06083265

http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-7266453-1.12-carat-Round-diamond-G-color-VS2-clarity.aspx

http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-6963822-1.12-carat-Round-diamond-H-color-VS1-clarity.aspx

http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD05459651

Just wanted to see what the experts here are thinking about the above options and if there are better ones out there for me to consider.

Thank you everyone for your input! I hope I only have to go through this process once!

Good eyes lovemybling finding stones w/ in budget at a 1.12 ct
out of the four you posted I like the last one best:

DarkKingz- you would want JA to check if this SI1 is eye clean

High Performance diamonds has three but all are over budget
http://highperformancediamonds.com/product-category/diamonds/?orderby=carats&hpd_search=&min_caret=.75&max_caret=1.20

perhaps call Yekutiel at ID Jewelry and tell him you are a pricescoper . . .

Fingers crossed for you!

Out of the ones you posted, I like the first one the best. It has the best proportions although it does have a large table. Not necessarily a bad thing. The 2 from B2cjewels and the 2nd BN stone I do not like the proportions.

The last JA one that the other poster posted looks really nice. Nice angles and looks like it could be eye clean. Please call and check to see if it's eye clean. Looks like a good price, especially since the 1st BN stone is roughly 2K over your budget. If you likey, put on hold as they get snapped up. You can also request an IS and/or ASET from JA to make sure the performance is great.

Thanks lovemybling, 16ocean and JDDN!

That last one from James Allen is indeed a nice find. Thank you for that.

Out of curiousity, how would that James Allen rock:

Compare with this one from Blue Nile (same stone also available at B2C):

http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD05459651

They both have very similar HCA scores (1.2 vs. 1.1) but the Blue Nile stole has a higher color rating and also seems to have less comments on the GIA report. Thoughts?

The crown angle is a little low for me on this diamond that's why if the stone from JA** is eye clean to your standards that's my pick

**please put it on hold so it doesn't get picked up by someone else also check if you can get an ASET on it

I would choose the JA one over the BN one personally. The BN stone has a crown angle of 33.5 and that's a bit too shallow for me. The numbers on the JA stone are ideal proportions. The proportions on the 1st BN one are ideal as well aside from the larger table. That being said, the BN stone you're comparing the JA stone to could be nice too. I'm just a sucker for ideal proportions! :))

Unfortunately I checked with JA and stone isn't in their New York office so they don't have an IS/ASET for it.

Bummer. Looks like you have some nice choices though. Let us know what you choose!

Did they say if it was eyeclean or not?

I emailed them and they don't seem to be sure, other than "it appears to be definitely eye-clean".

Guess I won't know until I decide to go for it and they bring it to their labs to inspect in person.

For Yekutiel at ID Jewelry, does he respond well to emails instead of via phone? I live in Canada but plan to ship it to a friend in the US.

Thanks!

You just can't buy a diamond blind. I would eliminate all the diamonds that do not at least have a photo. Sometimes we can tell from that if there is a problem, but idealscope or ASET are preferable.

Noted. I'll see what I can get from James Allen.

Also, I've reached out to Yekutiel to see what he can find for me. Fingers crossed!

fingers crossed for you . . . I would do both an e-mail and then a follow up phone call during business hours in NYC

Its interesting. I reached out to Yekutiel and he came back to me with the 2nd BN stone from my original list lol.

He said he has it on hand and can sell it for $6300, which is a little less than what BN is quoting. In addition to your concerns regarding "ideal proportions", i'm also worried about the cloud/pinpoints on the face of the diamond and that its been around since December 2014.

Maybe I should ask him to see what else is out there?

Bump. Anybody have any insights on those images?

It looks nice - not perfect H&A, but a nice performer. I'd just verify it's eye-clean.

Hi DarkKingz-
Glad Yekutiel got in touch w/ you and you have some images for the diamond & yes . . . see if he can find other options at the 1.12 carat weight.

yes . . . the crown angle is a touch low . . . .but the stone does score a 1.1 on the HCA. So it’s a contender.

For me, now the number one question for me would be “is it eye clean”?
1) figure out your definition of eye clean

https://www.pricescope.com/journal/what_eye_clean_diamond

2) ask Yekutiel if the stone he has meets your definition

black dots don't bug me if they can’t be seen my eye. The images you have been provided are magnified.

It kind of seems as if there are two options the one currently at ID jewelry( SI1 G) or the one from JA (SI1 H)
Carat weight they are the same.
Size wise the one at ID jewelry is slightly bigger(mm)
One is an H and one is G
the G is less expensive

Thanks ECF / Ocean.

I was able to get this for the James Allen stone as well.

Although I just checked again this morning and the JA stone seems to be unavailable now. :wall:

I think the second BN one looks really nice!! If IDJ can see it in person, I would definitely trust them to confirm that it's eyeclean to your standards.

exactly . . . . fingers crossed

I don't mean to be nosy..... but you've got me curious why the stone must weigh exactly 1.12 carats?

I don't know either and was tempted to ask. I'm thinking it must be a date. My favorite number is 9 so when it worked out my 5 stone added up to a multiplactive of 9 (I can't remember if .72 or .81) I thought that was cool.

Haha not a bad guess.

My girlfriend's name sounds like "2" so I was hoping to go with a 1.12 to represent "I Love 2".

aaaaw . . . my guess would have been you had met or your first date was on Jan 12
