Good morning Pricescopers!

I am helping a friend look for an engagement ring for his soon to be fiancee. We are hoping to enlist your expert help! His budget is ~$3,500 for the stone and setting. He's looking for a princess cut (or other square diamond) solitaire in a classic yellow gold setting with a thin band. We've talked about how cut is king, and an excellent cut is a top priority. Other parameters include eye clean and near colorless for the best bang for his buck to be able to maximize size.

He is comfortable purchasing online. Any suggestions or help is most appreciated!

Okay here ya go!

These were hardly any more than the H-I stones I looked at, so may as well go with higher color.

I looked at James Allen, but they don't seem to have a solitaire setting with the v prong corners, so I wouldn't consider that. The corners need the protection.

James Allen will do V Tip prongs for no additional charge - at least they did for my friends ring - you just need to ask.

Thanks Diamondseeker! I knew I could count on you! :)

So, after meeting with him he actually decided on a round stone! I felt more comfortable helping him pick out this shape (though I did suggest running it by all of you amazing PS experts) but he felt confident with his choice after using this amazing site to help research. He went with a .81 excellent cut J VS2 in their 14k yellow gold petite flower solitaire setting which came in at $3020... so he has some extra to spend on the proposal and/or wedding band!

Thanks again for the help! Hopefully I'll be able to snag a picture of the ring once it's all complete (and on her finger!).
