Hi Everyone! It's been a long time since I've posted- we moved, bought a new house, busy busy busy! I am looking to buy a loose cushion sapphire or aquamarine for a cocktail ring. I don't know a lot about colored gemstones. I have a couple of sapphire rings, but I really am looking for a showstopper. I will probably have it set in a delicate halo. I am looking for a larger stone- 3-5 carats? My budget for the stone is up to $4000, obviously would like to spend less if possible;-) I found this one, but I know nothing about the vendor. If you could help me find a few stones, I'd be very appreciative!

Would you prefer a sapphire over an aquamarine or vice versa? What size are you looking for in mm? A 3 carat aquamarine will not be the same size in millimeters as a 3 carat sapphire.

I'm no expert, but for what it's worth, if I was in the market for a blue sapphire with your budget I'd get this one [emoji4] its 3.4 ct, 7.9x7.9mm

I would prefer a sapphire over aqua, but I know unheated sapphires can cost a lot! I am looking for 9-11 mm x 7-8 cushion. Those are ROUGH estimates. I could go over or under or be persuaded into another shape. That sapphire is beautiful! I found two aquamarines I really love as well. Here are links:

BUT I am very smitten with this sapphire:

A 3 ct sapphire for under $4K is guaranteed to have issues. In this case, it has eye visible inclusions and cut issues. Are you all right with that?

No! I'm not. Thank you so much. I don't know much about colored stones, so I appreciate your help. So I think I will focus on getting an outstanding aqua! Did you see the ones I linked to?

You mentioned this being a cocktail ring, so it will be an occasional wear ring, right? If so, aquamarine will not be an issue. The Gemfix aquamarine is 1/3 the price of the Lapigems aquamarine, so it's a no brainer which one I would choose. I am also not crazy about most of the weight of the Lapigems aquamarine being in the pavilion and not much in the crown area.

Yes, occasional wear ring. I've always wanted an aqua, but I want one with a more saturated color than the ones I usually see. Are there any other vendors I should be looking at?

Also, I am looking at a delicate halo setting, but I don't want to spend a lot, since the stone isn't expensive to being with. Do you have any suggestions for a setting that looks nice but won't break the bank? I was thinking of maybe ERD?

I appreciate your help!

I have admired this aqua for a while now. It's not totally eye clean, but I think for the color, size and price it's a great trade off. Just another option for you!

Would you consider a zircon? This is about the cost you where willing to pay for the stone, nice and large, and in a cushion delicate halo

That's pretty! I'm not a huge fan of that color, though. I would like to stay with aqua- it's my son's birthstone. Settings look like they are going to be more than I anticipated :o
