Currently looking for a 1ct Cushion cut diamond. I was reading the page below:

http://www.diamondarticles.com/diamond-proportions/

... and it suggests

Depth % 59.0% – 65.0%
Table % 53.0% – 57.9 %

How important are these specs when choosing a Cushion diamond?

I found the below that fits this recommendation. What do you all think? TIA.

Re: Looking for a 1 ct Cushion Cut - Depth / Table % inquiri

Depth and table % are mostly useless. Those numbers are for rounds, anyway.

You should know what kind of cushion you are looking for: large chunky flashes; glittery pinfire; mix of both? Rectangular, square, in between?

Re: Looking for a 1 ct Cushion Cut - Depth / Table % inquiri

I am looking for the "crushed ice" look. I also want to maximize how the rock looks as I can only afford a 1 ct. So these depth / table %'s do nothing for how big the rock looks?

As for the shape, I am looking at a square or something close to it - but definitely not close to a rectangle if possible.

There are just too many things that go into it that makes a difference more than depth and table. If you have an extra percent of depth due to a very thick girdle, that's going to cut your spread down.

A diamond with better cut but physically smaller can look bigger than one that is not as well cut.

So how do I evaluate what a good cut is as these GIA certificates do not show a scale as they do for the round cuts.
