Hi there-

I just went to look at engagement rings for the first time over the weekend. What a process! I am looking for a simple, timeless, and elegant ring/diamond. I went into the store with either a Princess cut or Asscher cut already in mind, but left the store with more confusion after looking at a Cushette and Gabrielle cut diamond...

My price range is in the $5K range (for stone and simple platinum setting), and the stones I was looking at ranged from .75 to almost a full carat. My questions are:

1) Obviously, I want the most diamond and sparkle for my dollar - While it seemed that the Cushette and Gabrielle diamonds had the most sparkle, they cost slightly more than the Princess cut and had less weight. Since I want a classic and elegant ring, would the Cushette and Gabrielle cuts be too trendy?

2) Is $5K do-able for a .75-1.0 carat w/ platinum setting or am I kidding myself?

Thanks for the help!

The Cushette cut, I wouldn't classify it as to trendy. I think it is quite unique and lovely.

I believe this could be done on your budget.

Hmmmm, I'm really not into branded stones b/c you get ripped off

You could do A LOT better with a well cut cushion or princess or H&A round!

I'm not suggesting any of these...but here are a few just to give you an idea, and you can compare it to the branded stones.....hope it helps...

Huh. That last dirtcheap link didn't work...it's supposed to be a 71 depth, 68 table F vs2 princess for $4432. That has the potention of being an amazing stone
