I haven't read the whole thread, but have you tried craigslist Lost and Found for your area? I've reunited a cat with its owners that way. Silly cat was very close to home!

Nope. Gonna, do that and the FB idea.

Can you put posters/pictures of him up, too? That really sucks that the info on his microchip wasn't updated...

I plan to. Just do not have a color printer at home and have been really sick the last few days. So I am going to print out the flyer I made up tomorrow at work and then on Saturday I'll drive around and post it places locally.

I am wondering if I am being selfish holding him here at my house.

The shelter locally has promised me that they won't put him down or anything. They have a good person on staff there.

If I give him over to them then they can post all kinds of bulletins and stuff. They have all his information from me still, mind you. I took him in, they've seen him, have his pics and my information, so if the owners go to the shelter they can refer him here.

But... my heart breaks at the thought of him in a cage. Here he's got a whole room. And we visit him. I've been sitting with him for an hour and he's a cuddle bug (nips too, but I'm trying to break him of that) and LOVES people.

What do you guys think? Should I give him up to them?

I think you should try to find someone like a skip tracer who is good at locating people. If they moved, someone knows where they went. Heck, even check with the local post office to see if there's a forwarding address. I've known people whose cat got loose and got left behind. I know others who moved and the cat got out and returned to their old house. Try to locate the people. You can always cage up the new guy for a while. I would think that if people went to the expense of microchipping they'd want their cat back.

I'd keep him in your home, Gypsy. If his owners are looking for him, they'll find you.

I'm sure the shelter will be true to their word, but I always think of it this way: When you keep an animal out of the shelter you're saving another animal--the one who takes his place.

I personally wouldn't give him up the shelter, but then again I am still reeling from the death of my beloved princess 4 days ago so the thought of any animal at the shelter breaks my heart.

I would try Craig'sList at again. I kept our other cat Peanut in a back bedroom for weeks while my alpha cat EQ got used to the idea (it took her YEARS to adjust, honestly), so I think you are doing the right thing right now. I'm sure that if need be, you will find the right home for him.

You're da bomb Gypsy. It's the kind of thing I'd do.

Low cost spay/neuter clinic is a good bet I'd fix him regardless. I did it once to
a neighbors cat and they were afraid I'd ask them for
money. I just wanted to get him fixed so he couldnt breed and would
stop fighting

They settle down, the irritation
Between the fixed ones and non fixed ones tends to go away as they don't have
as strong a scent then to differentiate them and they become more peaceable.

For what it's worth, hissing is a fairly normal expression. The growling is a little
more problematic. Have you tried introducing any of your cats one at a time in his room
for a visit?

Hissing doesn't faze me but this was protracted growling. He kept it up for several long minutes after the door was closed AND a pillow was put in front of it to keep paws and other 'expressions of curiosity' at bay.

I won't introduce any of mine to him until he's been checked for FIV Felv. Especially as the best cat for introductions is my Duncan, who is the most fragile healthwise and oldest. I won't risk him, even for a second.

Thanks everyone. I'll keep them then. I appreciate your thoughts!

Fingers crossed that you find his loving home waiting for him and missing him desperately!

Any news?

He's FIV/FeLV negative. We got him tested. Also got him shots.

He's 4.5 years old.

No news on his parents. I'm holding him for one more week for them, after that I will foster him for a rescue and take him to adoption fairs on Sundays.

He will also be available to any PSer who wants him.

He's a love. Cuddles, kneads, head bonks. And is actually okay with being picked up (just freaked that first day, I think). We're going to see if he likes the other kitties next week. GREAT cat.

I'm glad he's in good hands but sad that no one has come forward. He may have been abandoned. There is a cat that living near my MIL that was left behind by the owners when they moved out. The new owner feeds it and it lives in her yard. I wish she would take it in but at least she looks after it.
Anyway GL! And let us know what happens.

Too bad the owners haven't claimed him yet. Glad to hear he tested negative and still has a nice home with you in the meantime. He sounds like a sweetie. I hope he gets along with your other cats.

Whatever happened with this adorable man you so graciously saved?
