Good news. He's micro-chipped. And the listed address is a few blocks over. So fingers crossed that A) their contact information is up to date and B) they still want the cat and C) that the cat just got away from them and he's normally indoor only. He's spayed and his ears and everything were clean. I didn't get him checked for FIV or anything as he was chipped and I am hoping he goes home and it's a non-issue. He really hates car rides though, let me tell you.

The the dust is working... can I get some more to get this guy to his (safe and loving) home?
Oh! That's wonderful news! he has a home - and he's wanted - what a wonderful ending to a rescue story! Yippee!

(PS - LOVE your cat with the hat!!)

And as a point of irony. One of my friends (WHO I BLAME FOR THIS!!!) posted this on my FB page today, and I (fatefully) commented that I was still three cats short. So for now, until this guy goes back to his home, we're up to only two cats short.

What do you mean that you're two or three cats short????? I must have missed some threads

We're up to 5 permanent cats. And this guy who (hopefully) we are just holding until his parents come get him. So... 6 in house at the moment.

Oh, I really shouldn't have clicked on this thread. He is beautiful. I will keep my fingers crossed that he is able to be reunited with his humans. Our cat Peanut *adopted* my husband the very same way.

Oh yes, fingers crossed that his family still lives there & they love him & keep him INSIDE. If they bothered to chip & neuter him, chances look good. He's cute, a real individual.

Good thing you have plenty of bedrooms! Shiny big golden halo for you!!

How exciting! I hope he returns home soon.

He's a handsome boy!

You're awesome to get him (and others!) off the street. Here's hoping he's reunited with his owners very soon.

:appl: :appl: :appl: yay for microchips and good people that take in strays when they've lost their way home. I hope Mr Kitty is reunited with his owners soon.

That's great news Gypsy! How nice of you to bring him into your home :saint:

Glad to hear he should be going home soon.

Great news! I hope they're waiting for your call-he looks well fed.

He does look well fed in that one picture from the top view. He's a REALLY BIG CAT. He's not fat at all, and actually has that full dip at the waistline of a trim cat (when standing) but he's easily 3 inches longer than my biggest cat and a couple inches taller too. His paws are huge to boot. When he sits, he rounds out but he's not a rotund cat (I have a couple of those and know them well). But I from feeling his spine I can tell his weight is just right for his build.

I'm waiting for the owners to call. The shelter called them and left messages for them to get in touch with the shelter, who will then call me.

Fingers crossed they get in touch and want their baby back.

I had a guy, Ivan, who was a long haired 24 pounder at his peak. He was just a tad overweight. He was just big. Mostly Maine Coon I think.
We lost Ivan over a year ago and I still miss my big boy.

I hope the owners love their kitty and want him back. It does seem he is well cared for. Very nice of you and your DH to take him in!

Fingers crossed for you and "Buddy"!

Fingers crossed! :)

and +1 for the neutering. It's out of control near us, I even gave our street's resident crazy cat lady who feeds all the ferals a cat trap, and she's been dutifully spaying and neutering all the cats! Yay! If this guy got out once, he can breed or already has. No need to add to the overpopulation. It's ignorance and lack of education that lead people to not spay/neuter, there's no good reason not to.

Thank you for taking such good care of him, Gypsy! :)

Gypsy - I'm so glad you took him to see if he was microchipped. That's always been a concern of mine...even if my cat is microchipped, that a person won't take the time to take him to a vet to verify.

His parent's haven't called yet. I called the shelter again and told them to just leave my number direct for them.

Dust for kitty to go home?

ETA: ;( His parent's are no longer at the phone numbers on this chip file. :( :( :( The shelter is checking with the leasing office for their apartment to see if they've moved. Fingers crossed that they haven't.

Sometimes when families move, if a cat gets loose it will go to the former home. I hope, if they aren't there still, that they left a forwarding address, etc. He seems well enough cared for that somebody should be missing him. Dust for them to turn up!

Who knows, maybe he's in a responsible breeding program.
Sorry, but as long as we kill 10,000 homeless animals a day in this country, there is no such thing as a responsible breeding program.

Oh no! Are you on Facebook? If so, search for "Lost Cats Yourstate" and see if there's a page. The lost animals Illinois page has reunited thousands of missing pets with their owners, it's amazing how well social media works for this sort of thing.

Agreed. As of next year, all cats in Perth must be mandatorily desexed. Next step: cut out 50% of registered breeders, and strictly limit their litter numbers. Maybe we'll finally be able to keep up with the 600+ cats put to sleep here every week of January and February. :nono:

Bad news re: the owners moving. This is a common event, sadly. Our rescue group requires our adopted pets to have their microchips remain under our contact details because we will ALWAYS be there to answer the phone. Then even if the owners can't be found through any avenue, the animal will not be euthed, just rehomed again.

I sincerely hope the owners are located.

I am glad to hear that Buddy has been neutered. It was making me uncomfortable the way people were talking about his jumblies. Since he hasn't any that is good since, hate to say it, he seems to be fixing to stay. Hopefully he will get over his fear of the other cats quickly, if his people turn out to be dead beats who abandoned their pet when they moved. Their address was only a few blocks from you? Have there not been any lost cat posters on the telephone poles (do they still have telephone poles)?

I totally agree.

He looks like a nice cat. Is he good with people? I can't believe they haven't gotten in touch with you yet. Maybe they are out of town or something?

Well, the people at his address (I went there in person) say they've never had a cat (and they have 3 dogs) and have been there for 2 years.

Looks like I have a cat to adopt out.

PSers... in CA, know of anyone looking for a great cat? I am getting him tested for FIV/FeLV on Saturday (shelter connected me with a low cost clinic that will do it for at their cost, which was awesome).

And we need a temporary name.

I like the name, Buddy. I think it suits him.

My fingers are crossed that he is FIV and FeLV negative. However, if he ends up being FIV+ he can still be happy and healthy for many, many years. I am a member of an FIV support group and the lifespan isn't really different than negative cats. Just throwing that out there, just in case.

Okay. So I got in touch with the shelter that adopted him out originally.

March 17, 2008 estimated DOB, July 15, 2008 taken to shelter. Adopted out that year.

So he's 4.5 years old.

Gonna try one more thing.

I know you are absolutely right honey. But it makes him harder to adopt out. And it means I have to keep him separate from my brood, since he isn't sure he likes other kitties and I can risk a bite.

I haven't read the whole thread, but have you tried craigslist Lost and Found for your area? I've reunited a cat with its owners that way. Silly cat was very close to home!
