My husband was getting out of his car tonight when a cat started urgently meowing and running toward him, so DH leaned down to see what was the matter and petted him, and that was it. He was adopted by the cat. The cat started heeling him like a dog, and followed him up the stairs, and right into our house like he owned it. So... we scooped him up and put him in the office (part of the reason I have 3 bedrooms is stray cats). We have him set up in the office with food, a blanket, water and a litter box (I keep extra stuff for strays in the house).

I have submitted his picture to the city. And I plan on faxing it to the local shelters tomorrow. We've sent his picture to the apartment manager. And we'll put up fliers tomorrow. I also need to take him to the vet and see if he's micro-chipped. Probably do that Wednesday.

He's cute. Doesn't look like he's been on the streets long, as he's not underweight and pretty clean. I don't believe in leaving cats on the street. He ate the wet food like he was starved but didn't touch the dry food. He doesn't like to be picked up. And GROWLS at the other cats viciously and hisses. So... not a good candidate for my house for sure. But he's VERY friendly and talkative and human-friendly. I'm guessing he hasn't been on the streets long, although DH thinks he saw him yesterday.

So I'm asking for DUST, DUST, DUST that what this kitty gets for Christmas is reunited with his (hopefully) loving home.

Not naming him. Just calling him "buddy" for now.

Here are some pics. First one is 3 of my cats gathered around the office doorway.

One more of him.

And as a point of irony. One of my friends (WHO I BLAME FOR THIS!!!) posted this on my FB page today, and I (fatefully) commented that I was still three cats short. So for now, until this guy goes back to his home, we're up to only two cats short.

Awwww you're so great to bring him in from the cold while you search for his family. Really hope you find his home! Dust to Mr. buddy!

Nice looking cat.
Thanks for being so kind to the poor thing.
Hope his humans get him back.

That's so sweet of you!

Poor kitty deserves to be found. Much dust to buddy!

Dust to kittah!

Gorgeous puddy, I really hope his humans find him in time for the holidays (he certainly doesn't look like he's missed many meals!). :))

Such a sweet looking cat. Shame he's all growly. Cute how he adopted you guys!

What a beautiful cat that looks like he hasn't gone hungry for too long. Nice that you are in a position to take him in while looking for his owner. I hope his family gets a holiday miracle of a returned cat.

The crazy cat lady tree is hilarious!

Sending dust.

Smart kitty - he knew exactly who to target for help! I hope you're able to reunite him with his owners soon - I especially hope he's microchipped.

Love that first picture of your cats checking out the situation!

I love the photo of your cats sniffing around the door! He's a very sweet looking cat and I hope he is reunited with his owner. Thanks for helping cats!

Very handsome boy. I love his mustache. Hope you find his people.

Thanks for the dust all.

DH thinks the cat is intact, not spayed, and that might be why he's so growley. If he is, he's getting fixed as soon as i can manage it (no matter who owns him, I'm thinking).

lol, I like the fact that your husband was "adopted" by him! Sending lots of kitty dust, hopefully he gets reunited or rehomed with a loving family soon!

He's soooo adorable!

Sending kitty lots of PS dust so he can reunite with his former family...thank you and yr DH for taking him in and taking care of him.

Aww, so cute! That's very kind of you to bring him in and help him. Hopefully he will be reunited with his family or adopted!

initial hissing is not unusual. heck, one of my adoptees continued to hiss for years.....SamanthaAnne was hell on wheels but she learned how to survive in a mutliple cat househould: she pretended they didn't exist and as long as there was no eye contact, there was not hair pulling...

you and your hubby did a good thing. even if he finds his supposed real home, i'm betting he comes back. i've had cats insist they were living with me.......

He's very cute! Hope you guys can find his owner quickly. Best of luck!

I understand the importance of fixing cats since so many are put to sleep, and any dog or cat I have will be fixed.

If your decision is to keep him then fixing him is your decision.
If your decision is to try to return him to his home then fixing him is not your decision IMHO.
That decision rests with his human.

Who knows, maybe he's in a responsible breeding program.
All the loved kitties in the world had to come from somewhere.

Dust for finding his him home! Love the crazy cat lady tree too.

He is adorable, Gypsy...

I'm so glad he ran into you guys...he'll be safe and loved with you for sure!

Hope that if he did have a family, that you find them soon, and that they took really, really good care of him and that they are really missing him.

Sending ps dust for Buddy, I love his face! Hope your search turns up something soon.

Sorry, Kenny, but I don't agree. Intact males are escape artists and there are simply too many unwanted kittens in the world. When people don't spay it's usually due to lack of money or ignorance about it harming the cat.

I'd agree with you if it was a purebred, but this boy is a handsome mutt.

No problem.
I don't need agreement.

What a great "cat lady" you are, Gypsy! I love one of those top pics where "Buddy" looks like he's smiling thinking - "yup, here I am at Gypsy's place, I'm living the good life now!"

Hope you can find his owners but if not, hope he adapts well to your home... cuz you know... you will probably end up keeping him! ;)) ;))

Good news. He's micro-chipped. And the listed address is a few blocks over. So fingers crossed that A) their contact information is up to date and B) they still want the cat and C) that the cat just got away from them and he's normally indoor only. He's spayed and his ears and everything were clean. I didn't get him checked for FIV or anything as he was chipped and I am hoping he goes home and it's a non-issue. He really hates car rides though, let me tell you.

The the dust is working... can I get some more to get this guy to his (safe and loving) home?

Fabulous news that he's chipped. Sending more dust in hopes that you get him home safely.

Our cats haven't been fond of car rides either. Lots of crying and whining from them during the car ride. DH or I usually sit in the back with the cat in the carrier while the other drives.
