and whats up with some of these egl certifed diamonds...is there a reason they are so much cheaper for what appears to be the same stone?

I don''t know much about Princess cuts, but an EGL certed diamond will almost always be cheaper than a GIA or AGS certed. This is because EGL are said to be not as strict in their grading as the other labs, although EGL USA have tightened up of late. Is this an EGL USA cert or another division such as Europe, Israel or Antwerp? Best thing if you want to buy an EGL certed diamond is to get an independant appraisal to make sure the diamond checks out with the colour and clarity grading. One note - on the first diamond that girdle might need more research being ex thin to ex thick. A diamond won'' t have both a GIA and EGL cert, it seems the one you posted has a GIA cert also if this is the same diamond.

shallow, big table, extremes on the girdle and a cheesy 'special note'..... no way.

both posts are of the same diamond. virtual diaomds are available to all dealers and due to special services and operating costs, there will be price differences among them.

Good point Miss Belle - the " special note " doesn''t mean a thing.

so when looking for a princess cut...1ct

what dimensions should i look for. ike what would be optimal...please help

if you want to get an awesome princess, get an ags graded ideal one.
3.gif

in general look for depths over 70% and tables less than or right around 70%
stay away from extremes. especially extremes both ways on the same stone (exthin-exthick)

so would i want an extra thin or extra thick...does it even matter?

you say 70% on the depth is there a percentage thats too hi 75%

i will start my search with the info you have provided.

Yes, the girdle does matter. You want medium. Medium-slightly thick is the next level of ok-ness. Too thin and it chips, too thick and you''re paying for weight you don''t see.

These are the grades for girdle:
extremely thin, very thin, thin, slightly thin, medium, slightly thick, thick, very thick, extremely thick

The first stone you picked went from the thinnest to the thickest, through 9 differentiations.

I think 78% depth is too high. Up to 75 would be best, but I think 76/77 is acceptable if the light performance is excellent.

ditto.

i might consider a thin girdle if it could be guaranteed to be only a small spot that could be protected or if it was bezel set.

sometimes you have to make sacrifices somewhere. if everything else is exactly what you are looking for, then don't let gd/gd scare you off. keep in mind that fine make diamonds will have those little details attended to though!

going from virtual to one vendor to virtual on another is like spinning your wheels.

I just want the most "sparkley" princess cut (in her words). I want a diamond thats like Whoa...thats a nice stone...doesnt polish releate to that?

Im tempted to pick up the one at james allen but maybe buying it form usa diamond becuase they will do it cheaper...but then again james allen offers everything. But then im concnerned about warranty...I know with the local shops. the setting is gaurneteed. I can trade up, They clean and all that jazz for free. but then i have to wonder am i getting a sub standard diamond.

''sparkly'' comes from the cut! cut=depth, table, crown/pavilion angles...etc. all working together. if a cutter took the time to make all of those things work together, then the polish/symmetry will be better than just ''good''. take your time and get it right. this is a once in a lifetime purchase!

it is going to be harder to find an amazing stone in virtual inventory, no matter who you buy it from. so having someone with the ability to get more information is that much more important.

ok thats gonna be great...I think now I can go on now and purchase an amazing stone...Thank you...thank you all for all your help.

you''re welcome!

just make sure you come back with pics!
